Curriculum

The academic organisation of the school reflects and tries to anticipate the social and economic needs of a rapidly changing world. The exact details of the curriculum are inevitably modified from year to year, while yet adhering to the general educational principles already stated. As far as possible, the curriculum is designed to uit each pupil's abilities and talents. The school provides a wide range of traditional subjects and believes firmly in giving each pupil opportunities to pursue studies in practical areas. Balance in each pupil's programme is a priority and great efforts are made to ensure that the broad educational needs of the young people are met adequately. In short, the curriculum is designed to offer academic, creative and practical challenges and to provide the breadth and depth necessary for sound educational development.

The curriclum at Junior Cycle in Manor House is a subject-based one. These subjects are divided into Academic subjects that are examined in the Junior Certificate and non academic subjects that contribute towards the broad education of the student. The academic curriculum is divided into core subjects, which all students study and seven optional subjects from which each student must select three.

At Senior Cycle, the number of academic subjects studied falls from eleven to seven. All students study Irish, English and Mathematics. The classes in these subjects are banded and this allows each student to study the subjects at an appropriate level for her. All students must study a Continental Language from a choice of French, German and Spanish. Seventeen academic subjects and one non academic are offered as options from which each student must select three subjects. All of these subjects are taught in mixed ability classes. The range of subjects offered is impressive. In the context of an all girls school, the excellence of the curriculum offered can be seen in the availability of Applied Mathematics and all three sciences and business subjects.
