Transition Year

'Transition Year offers students a broad educational experience with a view to the attainment of increased maturity before proceeding to further study and/or vocational preparation. It provides a bridge to help young people make the transition from a highly structured environment to one where they will take greater responsibility for their own learning and decision-making.'
(Transition Year Programme's Guidelines Department of Education). Transition Year is compulsory for all pupils.

'In Transition Year the students have the opportunity to experience a wide range of subjects and activities'.(Manor House Transition Year Programme Booklet).

These are divided into the following categories -

- General Education
- Modular Courses
- Enterprise Afternoon
- Work Experience
- Academic Subjects
- Extra Curricular Activities

We see the Transition Year Programme in Manor House as an opportunity to broaden the scope of education and develop the whole person. All students participate in this programme which the school pioneered in 1976. Among the activities undertaken in this year are work experience, young entrepreneur, work with children with learning difficulties, drama, technology and first aid. Our students have a reputation for excellence, hard work and motivation
which makes them much sought after in many and varied professions.
