The school tries through its pastoral care system to create an organisation in which the student is treated as an individual and not as 'one of the crowd'. We value the student as a unique person - who is already gifted The Pastoral Care Team liaise closely with the Guidence Counsellors, Dean of Discipline and Class Teachers who ultimately develop the morale and well being of the group. Our ideal student is the person 'who is intellectually competent, open to growth, religious, loving and committed to doing justice in generous service to the people of God'. Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, S.J. An integral part of education in Manor House School is that students be prepared to take place in adult life. Because of the values we hold in common, to ensure the climate in which these values can flourish, and to facilitate the orderly running of the school, certain standards of behaviour need to be prescribed. These include: good manners, respect for others, care of school buildings, one's own property and that of others. Good discipline in a school helps to create an atmosphere where each student feels secure and is taught to accept responsibility for her actions. Discipline is not mere external order, it is rather a sense of personal responsiblity for one self, for others and for the environment. Fuller elobration of all these points and the sanctions applied for non co-operation are posted in the school journal and in all classrooms. 'Vincit qui se vincet' apply sums up the school's philsophy with regard to discipline, 'She conquers, who conquers herself'. |
