connected with this hall. Everyone from the family sees how much the

him down. Although she tries really hard, mutual repulsion leads to
mutual attraction for Betty and Carter ...
043 [2.17-56] Jim, The Tyrant / Vater ist ein Tyrann
A bad day at the office results in a bad tempered Jim. And when
no one at home pays any attention it gets even worse and he starts
talking about the family lacking discipline and values - and it
would need a tyrant to change this situation. On the next day after
Kathy's the one who was neglected, bothered the other family members
and, among others, crashed a window, she knows what she has to expect
when she must face a tyrannic dad ...
044 [2.18-56] Betty's Brother / Immer in Bettys Schatten
Kathy is quite proud to have a sister like Betty. But for Bud it's
a tough life in senior high, to have such a well-known, ambitious
and smart sister. And with the others teasing him all the time his
behavior (missing self-confidence, starting fights, ...) starts to
worry both his parents and the principal who don't have a clue what's
going on.
045 [2.19-56] Betty Earns A Formal / Betty wird fluegge
Since her wishes get costly, Jim refuses to buy a new dress for
Betty - he instead wants her to earn the money herself. When she
does so, angst raises that from now own his daughter won't need
him any longer. And even more fear starts to bother Jim when
Betty, on one hand, doesn't want the others to know where she's
working, and on the other hand when her parents spot her uniform.
046 [2.20-56] The House Painter / Die menschliche Natur
The house gets painted and the painter soon is the target of a bet:
Betty, who does a survey on 'What's the Cause for our Daily Doings',
gets into an discussion with her dad who thinks the answer is one's
sense of responsibility and not, like results so far, egoism. To
prove his point Jim suggests a bet: If the painter turns down Jim's
offer to use cheap, bad quality paint (and in exchange earn some
extra money) instead of good quality - Jim's right. Else he loses
and must buy his wife (the needed) car ...
047 [2.21-56] Bud, The Wallflower048 [2.22-56] Bus To Nowhere / Bus nach nirgendwo
The last few days Betty has no fun, she's sullen and does nothing.
No one gets through to her, not even her parents. Betty faces a
personal crisis when she has to find answers, basically, to the
meaning-of-life question. The only way out for her is to put Bud's
story (which he has written as an assignment) into reality: Enter a
bus and go as far as the money takes her ...
049 [2.23-56] Kathy, The Indian Giver / Ein guter Tausch
Left alone by her siblings once again, and playing again with her
just-says-'Mama' baby doll Kathy starts thinking about having a real
baby. And the chances are good because her best friend Susi is so fed
up with her baby sister that they both trade doll against baby. The
Andersons are quite shocked when they find out and immediately return
the baby. Kathy now gets mad because a lesson learned earlier on says:
a trade is a trade and can't be canceled unless both parties agree.
050 [2.24-56] The Historical Andersons / Welch ein Held
Bud should write an assignment on a great man from the War of
Independence. Inspired by his dad he chooses Major Nathaniel Oliver
Anderson, an ancestor of the Andersons. A story about the Major -
thanks to Bud - soon makes the round and the citizens already
celebrate the discovery of a war hero, but, unfortunately, Bud's
enthusiasm was too early when he and Betty discover that he in
fact was the opposite of a hero.
051 [2.25-56] The Grass Is Greener / Das Geheimnis des Erfolges
Charly Bradley, a college pal of Jim's, is in town. Charly, now a
tycoon, Jim and two others were known as the Four Musketeers back
then. All of them made a fortune, except Jim who's just selling
insurance polices. Upon realizing this (after a 'hint' by Kathy)
he soon starts feeling bad, not having reached a high success in
business.
052 [2.26-56] The Persistent Guest053 [2.27-56] Family Reunion054 [2.28-56] Family Dines Out / Hohe Ziele
Betty found a new friend in Elouise Sanford, a girl from the higher
society. To impress her, as well as not to lose her, she agrees that
she and her parents are also attending the opening of the Country
Club. First Jim is against it since he can hardly afford it, but
then after he notices how much it'd mean to her, he agrees. Bud,
meanwhile, has taken on a job as cook in a restaurant: he won the
job because he told he would bring along customers - his parents
and siblings. Unfortunately, his first day collides with the club's
opening.
055 [2.29-56] Bud, The Boxer / Kampfgeist
Eddie Jarvis, a bully, has it for Bud. When Bud chickens out on
a fight, his father wants him to settle this fight in the boxing
ring. Bud does - and loses the fight after only a short time. His
father, however, encourages him to join the local boxing club. Soon
he becomes a star, after he not only shows promising results but
also beats club member Eddie. Now Bud wants to face the champion.
While Jim thinks he made the right decision in forcing Bud to join,
his mother as well as Betty are absolutely against Bud taking on
boxing, let alone fighting in the ring.
056 [2.30-56] Betty, Girl Engineer / Maedchen unerwuenscht
After a week of presentations, the students can sign up for a job
they are interested in and want to learn more about to gain some
practical work experience. Betty decides to go for engineering.
Despite the fact that everyone's against it (because she's a girl),
she wants to try it anyway - at least until the man she works with
runs her down, too.
057 [2.31-56] The Martins And The Coys058 [2.32-56] Dilemma For Margaret059 [2.33-56] Hero Father / Vater ist der Groesste
Duke Snider and his All-Star baseball team is touring the States
again. Of course Bud and his friends would like to see him stop
for a play in Springfield, but since Springfield's just a small
dot on the map this seems impossible. Bud, nevertheless, has faith
in his father's abilities to make the impossible come true ...
060 [2.34-56] Father, The Naturalist / Eine schlaflose Nacht
At the next Indian Meeting, Kathy shall get a promotion to tribe
princess. The only thing in her way is that she still needs five
different herbs for her folder. So she begs her dad to come home
and give her a ride into the woods in the evening since she has
waited until the last minute. Although he has a lot do do, Jim
agrees to help. After a short rest in the wood, Kathy leaves her
folder with all her previously collected things behind. At home,
after she notices, she's totally devastated. It's late and it's
a long way - so there's no chance to get it back. But this bugs
Jim ... Bud and Betty have a big fight when Betty asks him for
a favor but he has anything else to do than to help his sister.
061 [2.35-56] The $10.000 Question062 [2.36-56] Adopted Daughter063 [2.37-56] Betty's Graduation / Der Anfang vom Ende
For Kathy the end of Junior High approaches and she fears that this
could be the beginning of the end. Jim tells her that this is definitely
not the case and reminds her of Betty's very same feelings when she
graduated from high school years ago and the nearer the great day came
the more she got anxious about what's coming afterwards.
[Note: Since Kathy (and Lauren Chapin) is about four years older (except
the flashbacks) this actually seems to be ep.203, the revamped ep.063.
