The Cherokee reservation is chosen for another field test of a new feed additive. Like the previous one, where nearly an entire village was wiped out, this one also goes awry and soon people perish. When one of the orphans at the Christmas party at C.D.'s says he doesn't believe in Christmas Walker tells a story about the Texas Ranger Hayes Cooper: the tale, set in 1876, is about a Ranger who doesn't believe in Christmas, too, but finds faith again. Escorting the convicted - but also very devout - Will Stanton to a prison, Will is seriously wounded when he is hit by an arrow meant for Cooper. On the man's ranch Cooper learns why he supported the bank robbery and told nothing about the culprits: the Stanton's baby, Timmy, was kidnapped to force the family not to tell anything. And also Trivette is shot and seriously wounded after he accidentally crossed the killer's way. [Note: This episode is a potential spin-off pilot.
