You have traveled to another dimension, vaguely reminiscent of Ancient China, where a man known simply as Lord Conqueror who lives only to vanquish his nemesis the Sword Saint, and take over the entire universe. He will stop at nothing to get what he wants, and has on his side, a treacherous prophet known only as "Mud Buddha". Mud Buddha predicts that all will be his, provided he spare the lives of the boys Striding Cloud and Whispering Wind. So the honourless Conqueror pursues young Cloud and Wind, ruining their lives in the process. After taking Wind's mother as a mistress, Conqueror, who is also a sword collector, pursues his father who carries the legendary sword, "Ice Blizzard". In a fantastically CG background-animated duel, Conqueror vanquishes Wind's father, leaving his distressed mother to commit suicide. Now alone, and left with this traumatic experience forever implanted in his heart, Conqueror takes Wind as his pupil, unknowing he has just killed his father moments before. Striding Cloud is a member of a large sword foundary. Conqueror sends his troops in to dispatch the village, leaving young Cloud to witness it all. Before his eyes, Conqueror kills his father, then takes him away to become one of his students. From then on, Cloud loses his capacity to love and care, and instead bides his time to await his revenge.
Roughly 10 years later (or so), Cloud, Wind, and the older Frost (KAWAII!!!) have become Conqueror's best pupils. Cloud is a master of the water technique "Cloud Palms" which is excellently animated with CG effects. Wind is a master of the gust attack "Wind Kicks". (By the way I've been writing this, can you tell I used to play a lot of console RPG's?) A rivalry has ensued between the happy-go-lucky Wind and the forever brooding Cloud over the desire to be the best pupil, and over the love of Conqueror's daughter, Charity. Conqueror meanwhile, has become restless as the 10 years of fortune Mud Buddha has predicted have come to pass, and he anxiously awaits his return. He sends Cloud after the "Unchallenged Sword" and weaker Wind and Frost after Mud Buddha and his "Fire Monkey". Cloud gains the sword through senseless murder, and leaves its owner's son, hungering for revenge. Wind and Frost are successful in trapping both Mud Buddha (who is now ravaged by a flesh-eating disease, due to his predictions) and the Fire Monkey; however, Conqueror steals both from them on the way home. In Conqueror's fortress, the captured Mud Buddha tells Conqueror his remaining prophecy: "The Dragon will be stranded when Cloud and Wind become a storm." Conqueror mis-interprets this prophecy to mean that he will finally have to kill his arch-enemy Sword Saint, and awaits the day with glee. In the meantime, he makes plans for Wind to marry Charity, to the ire of jealous Cloud, who has secretly been having sexual relations with her. On the day of the wedding, he protests against the marriage and fights a duel with Wind. In the process Charity is killed, revealing her relations with Cloud before she expires. Both distraught men suffer a mental breakdown, Cloud stealing her lifeless body, and Wind becoming a drunk, while Conqueror who treasured Charity above all things, truly becomes souless. Confronting Cloud, Conqueror fights with him, but having no water around his surroundings, Cloud is defenseless. Cloud rips off his own arm in order to use Cloud Palms (via his blood...this scene is cool) then runs away and collapses in a riverbank. He is rescued by this annoying girl with fake braids and her father. Now at this point in the movie, for all the money that was spent on it, armless Cloud looked extremely fake (IMO) as one side of his body seemed to conveniently fatter. (Aaron: Arm is broken...need another.) Back on track, the GIRL-I-HATE's father offers to donate his "Fire Dragon" arm to Cloud as he cannot control it and senses Cloud can. (Aaron: Ahhhh NEW arm work much better!!!) Thanking them for all their help, Cloud travels back to the city to challenge Conqueror. Wind on the other hand has neglected his training so Conqueror sends him to the caves to retrieve his father's "Ice Blizzard Sword". While in the cave, two of Conqueror's associates poison Wind, but as he lays close to dying he manages to obtain these fruits imbedded in the Cave's rocks that grant the user stronger powers. Unfortunately, an awesomely CG animated "Fire Dragon" lurks in the cave, and destroys both of Conqueror's associates. Using Ice Blizzard as well his new found powers, Wind vanquishes the dragon and comes to the realization that Conqueror had him poisoned and probably killed his father too. In the meantime, my poor naive Frost learns from the rapidly dying Mud Buddha, the truth about Lord Conqueror, and what Cloud and Wind must do if they seek to win. As Mud Buddha dies, Frost rushes off to warn Cloud and Wind, but Lord Conqueror has already engaged Sword Saint in battle. Due to a really stupid move made by the GIRL-I-HATE, Sword Saint dies, and Conqueror seems victorious. It seems no one can stop him now as others, including the guy who wanted revenge for his father (Unchallenged Sword) try to attack him but instead expire. Finally Frost shows up, believing both Wind and Cloud to be dead and confronts Conqueror with his mis-deeds. Unfortunately Frost is no match for him (grrrr!!!) and dies in the arms of Wind, who has come in too late. Now one thing I forgot to mention, is that Wind and Cloud met up on the stairs up to Conqueror's Palace, where he gave Cloud the fruit. WHY COULDN'T HE HAVE BROUGHT ONE FOR FROST TOO?! NOOOOOO!!!!) Armed with the knowledge of what he and Cloud must do, they attack Lord Conqueror. [Michael Tse (Frost): How come whenever I star in movie with Ekin, I always die?! ---see his untimely demise in "Young and Dangerous IV"]. Lord Conqueror is Cloud and Wind's teacher so it seems at first the odds are heavily tipped. Finally, with the men remember the prophecy and inter-mix their blood so the earth gives birth to Cloud's sword. Wind obtained his in the caves, remember? Lord Conqueror is defeated, haunted by the spirits of all he has killed; but just when Cloud is about to kill him, Wind tells him to let him be as he will suffer more if he is plagued by his own insanity. Both men leave the fortress and head their own ways.....THE END.
This was one of the most wickedest movies I have ever seen, as it was the most HIGH BUDGET Chinese kung-fu/RPG style movie I have ever seen. For those of you who may or may not know, most Chinese Kung-fu movies are really, really, cheezy. Also, if you are non-Chinese like me and you're interested in watching this film, most Chinese movies are English subtitled so you'll have no problems watching it. I also got one of the soundtracks for this one, and let me just say that it was absolutely amazing!! It is mainly instrumental with the exceptions of the songs Ekin sang, (Aaron's can be found on one of his albums) and I absolutely love it. On the Aaron album (the one with the grey background and just his face on the cover), I love #11, the song he sang for the dead Charity in the movie, *sob!*.
