Thursday, November 11 (continued)

I came to a corner and saw Lord Nelson's Column to the right, so I headed in that direction. As I walked down the stairs in front of the Column, a police car - lights flashing - pulled over and stopped. To my surprise, the police car was the escort for the Horse Guard Parade for the Changing of the Guard. I ran to the street, snapping pictures all the way. I followed the Horse Guard over to the Barracks and shot a few more pictures of the Changing Ceremony.

The entrance to St. James’s Park was across the street from the soldier's barracks, so I walked through the park to Buckingham Palace. There was a big lake filled with waterfowl and I took advantage of the park’s many benches, stopping to rest for a couple of minutes and watch the birds. There were many people enjoying the sunny-but-cold day in the park. As I was walking, I heard a drum and found the source. A platoon of soldiers were practice-marching behind the gates across the Mall. By the time I reached them, they were almost finished, but I managed to get a couple of pictures.
