Schedule of Play
First Round (Friday, March 13)
First Round competition will consist of eight AVP players ranked from
7-14 and will begin at 10:00 am. These players will be divided in to
two groups of four players each. Each player will play three matches
during the day with a different partner. At the end of the day, the
player in each group (total of two (2) players) who has accumulated
the most points will earn a berth in the second round.
*If an alternate is needed prior to the start of any matches on the
first or second day of the tournament then that alternate is eligible
to compete for "Swatch King of the Beach." Alternates are eligible to
play for only prize money if they enter the competition once a cycle
of competition has begun.
*Jose Loiola and Kent Steffes were tied in the player rankings. A coin
flip was conducted at the AVP office Tuesday, February 17th, which determined
each of these player's seed and eventual pool placement.
Second Round (Saturday, March 14)
The two (2) First Round surviving players join the top six entered AVP
players for the second round which will begin at 10:00 am. Once again,
players will be divided in to two groups of four and each player will
play three matches with a different partner within their pool. The two
players in each group with the most points at the end of the Second
Round will compete in The Finals.
The Finals (Sunday, March 15)
The top four players from Round Two will compete in the Swatch King
of the Beach Invitational Finals which will begin at 12:00 pm. The player
with the most points at the end of the tournament will be declared the
"Swatch King of the Beach."

Players on day one will be seeded one through eight based on their
AVP ranking and placed in pools as follows:
Pool 1: Seeds 1, 4, 5, 8
Pool 2: Seeds 2, 3, 6, 7
For day two, the first round winners will be seeded seventh and eighth
based solely on first round pool play performance. The remaining six
players will be seeded one through six based on their AVP ranking. Again,
the players will be placed in pools as follows:
Pool 1: Seeds 1, 4, 5, 8
Pool 2: Seeds 2, 3, 6, 7
In the event two players have the identical AVP ranking, their seed
will be determined by a coin flip.
Cumulating Points Earned
Only
those points earned during the Second Round (two points per win) and
Final Round (three points per win) will count towards final Swatch King
of the Beach Invitational score tabulations. Ties Based on Points Earned
In the event of ties based on points earned per win, whether it be to
determine which players advance to day two or three or whether it be
to determine final event placement and prize money, point differential
will be the determinant. Point differential is the points scored by
a player's team minus those scored against his team. To determine advancement
and placement in case of ties on day two, only points for and against
on day two will be applicable. To determine final placement on day three
in case of ties, total points for and against on day two and three will
apply. If during any phase of the tournament, advancement to the next
round, or the championship itself is undecided bacause two players are
tied in wind and point differential, the following tie-breaker system
will be used: -The two players that are tied at the end of any round
of competition will stay on the court while the other two players participating
in that match will be utilized to compete in the tie-breaker. The tie-breaker
will immediately follow a 5 minute break. -The Competition Director
will randomly draw names from a hat to determine "partner designation"
for the tie-breaker. - The Competition Director will utilize a coin-flip
to determine "Serve" and "Side". -A game of "one minute" duration win
by two will be played. If at the one minute mark there is not a two
point margin, the game will continue until a two point margin is attained.
Side changes will take place after the :30 second mark has passed and
at each :30 second increment thereafter. -All players without a financial
stake that participate in a tie-break match will receive $500 to participate
and an additional $500 per win. If advancement to the next round, or
the championship itself is undecided because three players are tied
in wins and point differential, the following tie-breaker system will
be used. -A series of three games as described above will be played,
each player partnering up once with each of the other players in the
pool. -The Competition Director will randomly draw names from a hat
to determine partnerships and the sequence of play. -Advancement will
be determined first by the won-loss record and second by the point differential
of the "tied" players in the three games series.
