A very good game with a crappy ending, Secret of Mana is number 2 in the 3 part series of "Secret of..." games. The story begins with you(The hero) and two other boys from your village exploring a waterfall close to it. You fall down the waterfall, after hearing a strange voice, and after a short cutscene, you find a rusty sword, that seems to talk to you. It tells you to pull it out of the rock it's stuck in, and consequently, remove the protection that your vilage had from the monsters around. Shortly after, you are given a quest to save the planet by re-energizing the Mana sword, which will save them all. This game features a 2 and 3 player feature, if you have a multitap adapter, which is something i've never seen before on an RPG game. All of the sprites are really crisp and clean. The battle system is also very different, and is in a Zelda:Link To The Past style, which is something i've never seen from Squaresoft.
The music in this game is, well, amazing. Square comes
through again with a brilliant score, that sets the mood of eacharea perfectly, from bright, grassy meadows, to dark, dank caves, to sacred palaces.
This game has all of the makings of a classic, and not suprisingly. Squaresoft seems to have a knack for these kinds of games, and it really shows with Secret Of Mana.
