Family room
This is the room I just re-modeled after spending just $400 for "new"
furniture from a yard sale. With the new furniture as motivation
I successfully clutter busted the the whole room,
but especially the computer area which was a disaster!
These cabinets have been a much better way to organize the
computer area and I already had them, they just weren't being used here.
(This was taken just before we ate dinner.)
I will be working hard to keep this room clean.
I just wish I had a before picture of it, it used to be absolutely horrible.
![]() I love having the computer in this room, it is open to the kitchen and
I can easily monitor what my kids are doing when they are on-line.
Also, anyone at the comp. can still feel like they are together with the rest of the family.
One more plus is that they are closeby in case they need me to help them with something.
The table we eat at is also in this room.
Yes, it is quite often used for homework and projects,
but since it has to be cleared before we eat it doesn't stay messy for long.
A little about my computer area.
This is how it looks when I'm not using it.
![]() This is how it looks when I am using it.
With most of the flat surfaces already having something on them,
there is very little temptation to leave "stuff" here.
Also, the cabinets are on wheels, so they can be moved away
from the wall easily if I need to get back there to plug something in or
unplug something. I do have to remove a few books from the top
but still it is much easier than the stationary bookshelves I used to have
which had way to many books and places to clutter up!
![]() Here's what's inside.
In the cabinet just above the monitor is my scanner,
with enough room to lift the top. In the cabinet beside the scanner
we keep the CDs and disks at easy access. Reference books on top.
Below the CD cabinet is my printer.
Below the printer is a drawer for scissors, stapeler, more floppy disks,
pencils, pens, note pads, envelopes, etc. Below this is some cabinet space
for the boxes that computer programs came in, my high school yearbooks
(since I like spending time at Classmates.com and getting in touch with
old friends) and some other junk that needs to be cleaned out.
![]() I have loosened the back panels in many places to
slide wires through.
The drawer under the monitor has a piece
of tile panel (left over from another project) which fits just perfectly above
the edges of the drawer and supports my keyboard, mouse and mousepad.
This also allows room for my legs when I'm sitting here.
![]() The drawer stays empty, so when I want to put away
the keyboard and mouse I can do it easily.
![]() This shows the tileboard on the drawer. Now it's ready to slide shut easily.
![]() This is the best computer set up we have ever had.
It doesn't take up much space and it stays neat
so much better and easier than it ever has!
Just to the right of the computer is the TV which sits on a
cabinet with lots of drawers. This is where I keep all of my computer paper
(my printer will print on paper as large as 13" x 19", so I have a lot
of different sizes of paper, as well as different colors, textures, etc.),
card stock, index cards, invitation envelopes, CDs (for burning music) etc.
The cabinet color doesn't match very well, but it's a very useful cabinet
which my MIL gave me. Maybe one day I will paint it white to match.
