HIGH-PERFORMANCE FEATURES

    V8!

To increase power output in the high-
performance ranges above 4,000 r.p.m., a
specially designed ram-induction intake
manifold is used. Tappets can be adjusted
with manifold installed-an important
servicing advantage.

Extra-large
valves

Streamlining of intake valves (2.08-inch
diameter) increases air flow. Exhaust valves
are ¼-inch larger than standard, providing
greatly increased exhaust flow. They are
made of special, high heat-resistant alloy.

Special cylinder heads
and gaskets

Port areas of each cylinder head are about
25 percent larger than in the standard 413-cubic-inch
engine to provide extra-high volumetric efficiency.
Head gaskets are of stain-less steel
for extra durability. An exclusive
deck structure provides extra-strong sealing
of gaskets to handle the pressures
of high-performance operation.

Oversize exhaust
system

Cast-iron exhaust manifolds are streamlined,
long-branch type for exceptional volumetric
efficiency. Three-inch outlets have
cut-outs for minimum back pressure.
Tailpipes (two) are two inches in diameter
for minimum back pressure.

High-capacity
carburetion

Two four-barrel Carter carburetors are
hand-choked. No experimenting with them
is necessary because each carburetor has
been factory-set for maximum power and
fuel-air ratio. Dry-type air cleaners have
high-volume intake together with maximum
filtering effectiveness.

Fuel pump

Fuel pump has three valves for extra
pumping capacity. High spring load
provides higher fuel pressure.
Two electric fuel pumps are available
from your local Dodge dealer,
as optional equipment, for faster feeding.

Forged
aluminum pistons

Forging provides more strength than is
possible with the usual casting process.
