OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS

V8!

The Ramcharger 426 V-8 engine, like any thoroughbred, has per-
sonality traits that are highly individual - very different from those
of ordinary engines. In a high-performance engine, a high idle speed
is necessary to minimize roughness and keep the engine running.

Since there is no heat on the intake manifold, the engine is slow to
warm up. In cold weather, a surging condition and unstable engine
operation will be encountered until the 426 Ramcharger is warmed
up. But, as pointed out, this is not an engine for normality. High
performance demands compromising of some things, such as low
engine-idle speed, for example. Higher than normal oil consumption,
one quart or more for 500 miles, will also be noted. This is because of
increased lubrication to the valve train and the use of special piston
rings in order to assure maximum oil lubrication to the pistons and
cylinder walls. Special oil seals on the intake valve stems help to reduce
oil consumption. Here are some suggestions on how you can keep this
distinctive personality at its finely tuned peak of perfection.
