rings |
Top compression ring is chrome-plated, high-
strength iron to resist scuffing. Number two
ring is of standard design. Number three
ring is of two-piece design, specially adapted
for best lubrication requirements. |

Connecting
rods |
Beefed-up connecting rods assure maximum
dependability under extreme stress. Each
connecting rod is magnaflux-inspected to
eliminate the possibility of hairline cracks
or imperfections that might not be visible to
the eye or by normal methods of inspection. |

Engine oiling
system improved |
To assure that the lubrication needs of
extreme high performance will be met, oil
galleries in the 426 engine block have been
opened up to carry a larger volume of oil.
The oil intake tube from the screen has also
been enlarged. Larger main and rod bearing
oil grooves give better lubrication of these
vital parts. A swinging oil intake (swings
fore and aft) in the oil sump assures posi-
tive oil circulation during fast take-offs when
the oil moves to the rear of the oil pan. |

Specially
designed
valve gear |
Mechanical valve lifters to avoid pump-up at
high engine speeds. High-strength valve-
spring retainers and double high-load valve
springs prevent valve "float" at high r.p.m.
Rocker arms include a lock nut on the lash-
adjusting screw—for easier, more precise
adjustment. Valve gear is rated stable up to
6,500 r.p.m. on the standard test fixture. |

Deep-groove
pulleys |
To assure belt retention at high speed, belt
pulleys are deep-grooved. |

|

Crankshaft |
Hardened journals and tri-metal bearings
provide extra bearing-load capacity needed to
withstand strains produced by the Ram-
charger's exceptionally high torque output. |

|
|
Ignition
features |
A special distributor, of full-centrifugal-
advance design, has a special cam and dual-
breaker points. Special cam and high spring
load on points prevent "point bounce". Dual-
breaker points result in higher plug voltage
at high speeds. Special low-resistance cables
and cold-running spark plugs are designed
for high engine power output. |
