FRAG MISSILE

The Frag Missile is a very useful weapon that tends to cause a lot of suicides in the hands of inexperienced users. At close range a frag will kill your opponent and yourself in one one gigantic confragration! For this reason we recommend disabling the frag in the weapons configuration menu if you are new to Descent online play.
The frag is quite a fast missile and is best used at longer ranges, to probe hidden corners and especially down tunnels. The spread of a frag missile upon impact depends on the surface (and angle) that it hits. Colateral damage is extreme when using the frag. It is possible to take out 3 or more ships at once with a single well placed frag. If you want to see the most challenging environment in which to use frag missiles then play in Burning Indika 4.

Because the frag can be aimed very precisely, it is a great weapon to put into a snipers bunker. Often you will be either the surprise victim of, or an even more surprised survivor of, a frag attack. Schrapnel will bounce at odd angles from a frag, often hitting pilots a considerable distance from the initial impact. Similarly, you can be extremely close to a frag and survive without a scratch!
A shower of frag missiles is a nightmare to survive.
Frags come one at a time, from left then right gun pods with a very good rate of fire. When firing frags in confined surroundings it is very important to know which side the next frag is coming from! Expecting it to come from the left and having it emerge from the right can be the recipe for an instant suicide. If you don't know which side, withdraw so that either side will reach your target. This allows an added distance from any possible snafus!
Frags can be worth their weight in gold - particularly if playing an opponent better than you who seems to avoid all your homing weapons. I have often found I know where a pilot is and yet because of their skill I can't manage to kill them with repeated attacks and end up dying in the attempts. In this scenario there are two options, break off the attack completely and go get more weapons, or send in the frags. Even outstanding pilots have difficulty escaping a hail of frag fire unscathed.
