MEGA MISSILE

Mega exploding Slow, homing and deadly! This missile has a very small radius of curvature. It can turn quite tight corners and is an excellent wake-up call for pilots caught napping. Although easy to avoid if you know one is coming, the Mega will take you right out if it hits you squarely. Virtually useless in a large open area, unless you deliver 3 in quick succession followed up with 4 or 5 homers!

The much maligned Mega Missile What many pilots seem to forget is that a seeking weapon does not need to be fired at an opponent! Because they travel straight until they acquire a target or impact a wall, they are superb for firing from corridors into dogfighting areas. (This applies to homers as well, although they cannot turn as quickly so the Mega is superior in this regard.) From long range fire-and-forget down a corridor into an open space, to short range pokes from a hidden tunnel, the Mega missile should be thought of as a very fast seeking impact mortar.

They are easy to outrun and outfly in the open. Even the D3 Manual explains how to do this! However, in close quarters they are lethal. In a tunnel - a certain kill! To confirm this, play the level "241". In your face may cause you some greivous bodily harm too! The explosive force of a Mega missile is such that any pilot within 3 or 4 ship lengths will take collateral damage! The sound of the explosion is muted, but it echos for a long, long time after impact. If you see this - you are dead! An inbound mega missile

One very amusing thing about the Mega missile is that, if you see the grinning face to the right, then you are most certainly about 200 milliseconds from oblivion. Watching one come at you, it grows very slowly, and then all of a sudden, very quickly!
