Tips For Starters

Sometimes the hardest part of any game is starting off. To help starters in Star Wars Rebellion here are a few tips for bath the Alliance and the Empire:

Alliance:

Since Rebellion is set after the battle of Yavin where the first Death Star was destroyed the Empire know about the base on Yavin 4. The first job should be to fully protect the headquarters on Yavin until you find somewhere else to move it. Before that here are a few things you should do:

  • Have Mon Mothma recruit new characters from friendly planets.
  • Have Leia and any other characters with diplomatic skills increase popular support on local planets and encourage them to join the rebellion. Note: You can check the attributes and skills of special characters by checking their profiles.
  • Move Special Characters off Yavin.
  • Have any character with research capabilities conduct research.
  • Send Longprobe Y-Wing teams out to nearby outer rim sectors to explore.
  • Once you have a few planets in your possession build up your starfighter and troop defences.

 Empire:

At this stage you have just lost the battle of Yavin. You now know where the rebel's secret base is. Your overall objective is to replace lost units and rebuild a fleet. The first job is to send an available fleet to perform a strike mission on Yavin. (Who knows you might get lucky and capture Luke Skywalker).

Here are a few initial tasks that should be done:

  • Have Emperor Palpatine and Vader recruit new characters.
  • Have all characters who have diplomatic skills performing diplomatic missions on nearby planets.
  • Use Probe Droids to explore nearby outer rim territories.
  • Attack and take over any nearby Alliance planets to gain total control over your side of the galaxy.
  • Build up defences, troops, and starfighters on your planets.
  • Develop a large fleet once you have the resources.

General Tips:

  • Find planets with huge energy resources to develop 8 or 9 shipyards, training facilities or construction yards. This will make building much faster.
  • Try to keep construction yards, shipyards and training facilities together and close to the front line. This saves on hyperspace time when conducting an offensive against the enemy.
  • Recruit as many characters as you can. They are very valuable against the enemy.
  • Try to keep constructing mine and refinery pairs to keep the maintenance level up.
  • Make sure that every planet you have has two Gencore shields and a garrison of troops. This stops the enemy easily taking over your planets while your fleets are away.
  • When you capture enemy characters try to move them to a well defended planet to prevent rescue.
  • The best way to conduct sabotage missions is to blockade the planet with a fleet holding infiltration teams and special characters with espionage and combat skills. If the team fails it's mission it merely returns to the fleet instead of the planet it came from. This saves a lot of time.

The Battle Tactical Screen:

In Rebellion there are two ways to have a battle between friendly and enemy fleets. You can simulate the battle and get an instant result or you can switch to a battle tactical screen giving you control of your fleet. Although simulating is a quick way to have battles it is not necessarily better than the tactical method. Simulation allows the computer to make decisions for you but they are not necessarily the correct decisions. If you are losing the battle and you are taking control you may withdraw however if you are simulating the battle the computer may not withdraw your fleet and they may get completely destroyed.

Withdrawal Times:

The withdrawal time depends on the distance between the planet where you are in battle and the destination planet which is the nearest friendly planet. You cannot withdraw if the enemy has a ship in their fleet with a gravitational well. You must first destroy this ship to enter hyperspace.

If the Imperial fleet contains a Death Star then the withdrawal time is greatly increased due to the gravitational effects of the Death Star.

Death Star Tactical Controls:

To select the Death Star in tactical battle click on the Death Star image at the top right of the screen. A charge meter is also displayed. This tracks the charge of the Death Star laser. There is also a fire button which allows you to fire the laser.

To blow up ships with the Death Star laser in battle click on the fire button. The cursor will then change to a target. Right click on the ship you wish to destroy and the laser will destroy the ship. To fire the laser again you have to wait until the laser is fully recharged. Note: You cannot target any fighters or the planet in the tactical screen.
