Route 2
Now it's time to start collecting Pokémon. Pidgey and Rattata are more plentiful along Route 1, so head back there to collect them first, then go north to Viridian Forest. Remember that you must weaken a Pokémon first before using a Poké Ball to capture it. If your target is too strong, it will break free. On the other hand, if you drain all of your target's energy, it will faint, and you won't be able to collect it. Keep in mind that you can't capture another trainer's Pokémon.

Viridian Forest
You'll run across several trainers in Viridian Forest, so build up at least a couple of your Pokémon before you challenge them. There's only one main route through the forest, so you shouldn't have very much trouble finding your way out. The exit is in the upper left corner of the area.

Rival trainers will often challenge you as soon as they see you, and you won't be able to avoid combat.
