Cerulean City
As long as you're trapped in Cerulean City, you may as well gather information from the locals. Defeat Misty in the local Gym to open the bridge to the north. If you need to build levels before you challenge Misty, look for Pokémon in the field to the west of town.

A Smooth Ride
As you know, you can earn tons of money by defeating Pokémon trainers in combat. You'll have to defeat a lot of trainers, though, to buy a bike in Cerulean City. A new ride here will set you back a cool 1 million PokéDollars!

Misty is the leader of the local Gym but you'll have to face two other trainers before you can challenge her. Defeat Misty's Pokémon to receive her TM 11 and her Cascadebadge. This badge can be combined with a Hidden Machine you'll find later to gain the Cut ability. (Tip: Use Bulbasaur against Misty's Pokémon.)

You'll need to win a lot of duels to earn enough money for a bicycle. The bicycle will enable you to travel very quickly, but you'll still be open to attack from wild Pokémon and rival trainers.
