Weapons of Proficiency: All bows, all swords, spear, dagger (wielded & thrown).

Nonweapon Proficiencies: Ancient languages (Thorass); animal lore; danger sense; direction sense; endurance; hunting; modern languages (Common); reading/writing (any he can speak); running; spellcraft; survival (woodland); tactics of magic; weather sense.

As a warrior of the High Forest, Lorarlao gets direction sense, endurance and survival (woodland) as bonus proficiencies.

Equipment: His spellbooks and a silver and gold short sword. Oddly, Lorarlao carries a half burnt ironwood stake with a stone core with additional ivory inlays playing about its point!

Magic Items: Lorarlao carries the dreaded artifact known only as The Cursed Amulet of Youth, a long bow +3, and 10 permanent sheaf arrows +5 of returning (that each cause 2d8+5 damage per hit).

Combat/Tactics: Lorarlao is insidious, weakening stronger foes with his spells and an occasional natural disaster. He is afraid of no one and often animates his enemies into undead forms as punishment for opposing him.

Lorarlao's vampiric form doesn't conform to either the standard AD&D game rules or the Ravenloft settings variant rules. He is a Paragon of the vampire species according to the Legendary Monster rules in the Player's Option: High-Level Campaigns. When he bites his victims, he drains 2 points of charisma per round. Lorarlao gains +5 to hit with long or short bows. Victims save at -4 versus his charm person ability if they look into his eyes; Lorarlao can also charm with his voice alone, however, victims of this type of charm save with no penalty to their saving throw.

Lorarlao can only be struck by weapons of +3 enchantment or better, is immune to all non-magical substances that repulse vampires, can withstand up to 4 turns of sunlight, and regenerates 6 hit points per round. Like normal AD&D vampires, Lorarlao is immune to sleep, charm, all hold, mind-affecting spells, death spells, as well as poisons and paralysis of all kinds. Cold and electricity attacks only cause half their normal damage against the elven vampire.

Otherwise, Lorarlao possesses all the other benefits and hindrances of normal vampires as listed in the Monstrous Manual, except the differences stated above. These abilities include assuming the form of a large bat or pale silver-furred wolf with lime-yellow eyes. Brief statistics for these forms are:

Dire Wolf: Dmg 4d4+12, AC 1 (6), THAC0 8, MV 35, SZ L, ML 16.
STR 25, DEX 22, CON 20, INT 19, WIS 16, CHR 6, COM 16

Bat: Dmg 3d2+9, AC 2 (8), THAC0 13, MV 12, Fl 36 (C), SD -3 penalty to opponents attack, SZ M, ML 16.
STR 25, DEX 24, CON 18, INT 19, WIS 16, CHR 3, COM 13

The above statistical information is modified using Player's Option: High-Level Campaigns in order to show the difference Lorarlao's high ability scores, present on his animal forms. Any changes in Charisma are from the appearance of the creatures form compared to that of others of its species to the human and demihuman eye (based on the original Intelligence category of a real world animal of the same type).

Lorarlao has his normal 18 Charisma and 28 Comeliness to animals of the same species as the animal form he has taken, but to humans and demihumans, he bears the adjusted above stats. Thus Lorarlao appears as one of the most beautiful creatures in the Realms while in animal form, as his is a very beautiful being to begin with, so his other forms follow suit.

Allies/Companions: None.

Foes/Enemies: Everyone, but he has killed everyone he's met so far, with the exception of Arik Tenderfoot, Kala Ravensclaw, Kylan Bloodbringer, Lord-Prince Jordon "Piper" Silverblade, Tannus Blade (The Black Unicorn), Caldath'yn, and Hal Strikelin. So they are his only enemies, other than Vecna and Kas the Destroyer back in Ravenloft!

Appearance: Lorarlao is a handsome moon elf with deep green eyes and light black hair. He wears the clothing befitting that of royalty, with the exception of the skin-tight burial wrappings (which he also keeps very, very clean) that cover his arms and torso. After he massacred a whole royal family and took over their kingdom. Since the ruin of that kingdom, Lorarlao has terrorized the beings drawn into the domains of dread.

Personality: Proud and arrogant, Lorarlao despises all other beings except for those who have lasted in battle with him and his own kind, who he can gloat over. He loves to fight and always toys with his victims before devouring them, preferably in front of their loved ones. Lorarlao is one of, if not the most vicious and evil elves to ever exist anywhere in the multiverse!

Locales Frequented: Formerly the High Forest, now any of the domains within the Domains of Dread (The Ravenloft setting). Although, Lorarlao is currently at large in the Realms, as the Ravenloft powers allow him to leave via any gate or portal he is aware of, as otherwise he would kill almost everything in the demiplane and thus defeat the dark power's purpose of corrupting those within. (Allowing him to leave, in turn allows everything else to thrive and stay within their grasp.)

History: Lorarlao was born in the High Forest, not quite a millennium ago, but more than this cannot be known to anyone other than Lorarlao himself. After his entrance into Ravenloft, however, he has killed almost everyone he has encountered. He has even destroyed no less than four Dark Lords, without mercy and in front of their many unwilling subjects. Of those witnesses who did not die of shock, he later killed and animated, forcing them to tear each other apart for his sick entertainment! His recent little insidious "projects" have been against the Demigod archmage Vecna, from whom Lorarlao is trying to steal spell knowledge. Kas the Destroyer has also been trying to undermine Lorarlao in these dealings, as he is also trying to destroy his old nemesis Vecna. This of course has occurred due to Lorarlao telling the servants of Kas that if their master gets in his way that he will be torn limb from bloodless limb and quartered in his own kingdom!

Motivation/Goals: Cruelty and fun are Lorarlao's only goals in his eternal unlife.

Current Experience (+10%): 1,341,850/1,223,660.

Experience for Next Level: 1,500,000/1,500,000.

Legendary Monster Abilities: Paragon

  • Aura of Fear: An aura of fear that surrounds Lorarlao sends creatures with less than 4+1 hit dice and characters of 4th level or less fleeing in panic at the sight of him if the creature is attacking or charging. Panicked creatures flee for 2d4 turns, as though affected by the 4th-level wizard spell fear.

More powerful characters are affected only if they are within 50-feet of him, and then only if Lorarlao consciously employs its fear power. Opponents who do not automatically flee are allowed a saving throw vs. spell with a -4 penalty to avoid the effect.

  • Caustic Exhalation: Lorarlao is so powerfully evil that he exhale a mist of acidic droplets and destructive radiation energy in the form of a cloud that covers an area that is 50' wide, 40' tall, and 70' long up to 5 times per day (once every 3 rounds). This breath weapon causes 11d12 points of damage to all those in the area of the cloud. Although, a successful saving throw vs. breath weapon will half this damage.

  • Enhanced Movement: Lorarlao is far faster than any of his lesser vampire cousins (speaking in reference to them as a species), plus his other movement altering abilities below! Lorarlao is literally a blur while he moves, and can even blink (as the wizard spell of the same name) to the distance of his full movement rate if he does not feel like moving in the conventional manner to get to a desired location.

  • Increased Damage: Lorarlao has fists that are at least as hard as adamantine! They are so physically damaging to opponents, that a single punch from him causes 3d6+23 points of damage. Furthermore, he can drain 3d4+9 hit points worth of blood from a victim in a round; if he tears open the victim's throat, Lorarlao can drain up to 40 hit points worth of blood.

  • Magic Resistance: Lorarlao is nigh invulnerable to the Art, as he bears an astounding 100% magic resistance.

  • Wounding: All bite or claw attacks (not closed fist attacks) from Lorarlao inflict damage that cannot be healed by normal or magical item granted regeneration, first aid, or by any magical means (short of a wish, 7th-level regeneration spell, or a periapt of wound closure). These wounds bleed freely, inflicting additional 2d6 points of damage each round until the wound is bound or a healing spell is applied. Healing spells used in this manner don't restore any lost hit points, they just prevent additional bleeding damage. Note, however, that he commonly punches those he cannot beat with swordsmanship, toying with them, as usual!
  • Unique Abilities
Ancient Darkness: As an eminent & legendary (not to mention enormously feared) elven vampire, Lorarlao has the following special abilities:

  • Pass Plant: Lorarlao can pass plant at will, although this kills the plant via his curse of the black thumb.

  • Skin Tone: Lorarlao has stark white skin gained from his already light complexion and centuries of undeath! This identifies his undead nature to anyone who views him, although he sometimes masks his appearance with spells.

  • Undead Control: As an eminent paragon vampire, Lorarlao can control other undead as an evil priest using his incredible will. He can control undead with the following ability: 1 HD: *; Zombie: *; 2 HD: 1; 3-4 HD: 4; 5 HD: 7; Ghast: 10; 6 HD: 13; 7 HD: 16; 8 HD: 19; 9 HD: 20.

    * Automatically controlled (no chance of failure).

  • Vampiric Speed: Lorarlao is granted 2d4 melee rounds per turn of double physical attacks (spell-like & spellcasting remain unaffected), a +4 AC bonus (thus going from a -17 AC to an AC of -21), and double movement (and flying at a maneuverability class of A)!
