Quicksilver dragons are fast, highly-maneuverable creatures with relatively small bodies and long tails. They are witty and very active, and they ignore what they consider to be useless squabbles between good and evil. When hatched, quicksilver dragons have silvery skin with small scales of a light, translucent steel blue. As they grow older, the scales gradually blend in with the skin color. Adults are sparkling platinum in color.

Quicksilver dragons speak their own tongue and the tongue common to all neutral dragons, and 18% of hatchling quicksilver dragons have an ability to communicate with any intelligent creature. The chance to possess this ability increases 5% per age category of the dragon.

Quicksilver Dragons are often mistaken for their cousin, the mercury dragon. They are strange creatures, the amount of metals they eat is astounding and because of this they have developed malleability akin to that of living steel. This dragon can naturally from birth, change its shape into anything of the same relative mass as itself, although this shape change does not convey any colorization, do a human formed quicksilver dragon would be the right shape and size, but would remain a brilliant silver color! Quicksilver's who are old enough can mask this with spells if they wish to better appear as another creature. All quicksilver dragons of young adult and older are the same shiny silvery-platinum color; the only way to tell the age category of one of these strange dragons is by determining their size.

Combat: Quicksilver dragons are as unpredictable when it comes to combat, as they are in any other situation. They may parley, they might attack instantly, or, perhaps, they may avoid combat entirely. They rarely attack creatures unless sorely provoked.

Quicksilver dragons always use spells in combat, if possible. They are very creative, and can always figure out some innovative way of using virtually any spell to advantage in combat.

In addition to the breath weapon and the attack modes shared by all dragons, unlike its other cousin dragons, the quicksilver dragon can also attack at any time in the round with its very flexible and highly malleable tail. The quicksilver dragon can attack any opponent within range of its tail, so it could also bring all 4 of its normal attacks (claw/claw/bite/tail slap) to bear on one creature should it choose to. Normal dragons can only attack creatures to their sides and rear with their tail slaps, but the quicksilver dragon's tail is much longer in comparison with its body length, so it may strike over its head similar to the way a wyvern attacks.

A quicksilver dragons breath cloud of burning white-hot evaporated steel gas that is 50' long, 40' wide, and 30 feet high. All creatures caught in this stream must save vs. breath weapon for half damage. And they must also make a second saving throw vs. breath weapon or begin to suffocate (as the 7th-level wizard spell from the Tome of Magic).

A quicksilver dragon casts spells and uses magical abilities at the 10th level, plus their combat modifier. At birth, quicksilver dragons are immune to fire, gas, heat and all of their magical forms.

They also receive a -3 penalty to saving throws against cold-based attacks. As they age, they gain the following additional powers:

Age
Ability
Young
Gaze reflection constantly in effect
Juvenile
Dazzle thrice times per day, Regenerate 1 hit point per turn.
Adult
Haste twice per day, Regenerate 1 hit point per 5 rounds.
Old
Improved blink once per day, Regenerate 1 hit point per round.
Venerable
Spell turning once per day, Regenerate 3 hit points per round.
Great Wrym
Mass slow once per day, Regenerate 6 hit points per round.

Habitat/Society: Quicksilver drago.s are loners by nature. Their mating behavior is free-wheeling, fun loving, and generally irresponsible. If a female becomes impregnated, however, the male's protective instincts take over. Quicksilvers are very protective of their offspring, and will give their lives to save them. Offspring usually stay with their parents until they reach the juvenile age category.

Because of their unpredictable, sometimes almost irrational nature, quicksilvers very rarely have close relationships with other creatures in the area. For this reason, quicksilvers have to depend on magical and mechanical traps and guards to protect their lairs when they are away.

Ecology: Quicksilver dragons eat anything, but they prefer to feed on metal ores. Although they have no venom attacks, the flesh of quicksilver dragons is highly poisonous.
