Wizard Spells (7/7/8*/8*/8*/5/4/3; including specialty and ring bonus and signature spells): As a surviving drow noble of the fallen House DeVir and a powerful wild mage in his own right, Yazston has done well to blend in, and thus is able to retain his peace and privacy enough that he typically fashions new magics yearly. The spells he typically carries on a daily basis are: 1st-Arael'el'lyon's piercing fingers, dark pulse (x2), erratic movement, shadowgloom, violet phyre (x2), 2nd-Arael'el'lyon's aura fists, chaos shield, choke, dark pulse II, dark pulses, quell, Quentrez's shadelight, 3rd-dark pulse III (x2), darkening (x2), hand of darkness, lightning bolt, switch, violence is power, 4th-Arael'el'lyon's blind guardian (x2), chaos mist, dark spheres, escape, stop, tongue parasite, violence aura, 5th-black halo, dark blast (x2), dark pulse IV, dream of the earth, drider form, nimbus of lightning, vortex, 6th-black scarabs, Jordon's chaotic orbs, light into darkness, mantle, onyx arms, 7th-dark bolts, mantle, silent accord, spell shape, 8th-mantle, Underdark kiss, wildzone. (Wild magic spells are in Bold lettering.)

Weapons of Proficiency: Dagger, dart, staff.

Nonweapon Proficiencies: Ancient history (Menzoberranzan); back attack; blind-fighting; direction sense; heraldry (drow); local history (Menzoberranzan); modern languages (Common, Dwarven & Orcish); native language (Drow); signature spells (switch, escape & dark blast); spellcraft; spellflash; survival (Underdark); tactics of magic (drow).

As a wizard of the Underdark, Yazston gains the bonus proficiencies of direction sense, blind-fighting, and survival (Underdark).

Equipment: Standard drow wizard adventuring gear, plus his spellbook (written in the drow language) and a treasure map.

Magical Items: The DeVir tattoo, a DeVir house insignia, DeVir chain mail, the ring of illusions & healing, a sleaveless and close-fitting robe of the neutral archmagi, the ring of the archmagus, an over-robe of useful items, eyes of the unsun set in obsidian frames, a platinum ring of protection +2, a necklace of X-ray vision, boots of elvenkind, a dagger of quickness +2, a dagger +5 of drow make that functions normally above ground (even while in sunlight), and the codex of silence.

Yazston also wears a fine cape of a black dragon hide that has been protected by force shells and has a secret pocket within its inner folds, which holds three golden etched adamantite darts (each worth 15 gp). The interior of the pocket has been treated with a trigger spell that unleashes a dark darts spell on the darts when he reaches in for them, for the purposes for combat.

Combat/Tactics: Yazston is a chaotic, yet serious opponent. He makes great use of cover and is a master at attacking from above, in true drow fashion. He uses swift, damaging spells from afar, then moves in to backstab the "left-over" combatants.

Allies/Companions: Rizzen DeVir and the rest of the Black Spiral; plus Lord-Prince Piper, of which he has had some dealings in the way of the Art.

Foes/Enemies: Those drow who would see him dead along with his nonexistent Noble House, and others who despise the drow as a race.

Appearance: Yazston is a golden skinned drow (done with the use of the scuplt features spell) of average size, (5' 7", 110 pounds) with violet eyes and beautiful, long silver hair. Because of his use of sculpt features, he looks more like a gold elf of the surface lands. He commonly wears dark grey and purple robes and is never without his accompanying jewelry! Yazston has an enchanted tattoo of his family's symbol upon his right breast. This strange tattoo denotes him as a noble of the fallen House DeVir of Menzoberranzan. The tattoo glows with purple faerie fire at will.

Personality: Yazston is calm and serious, although in combat his eyes sparkle with chaotic delight. He is a rogue noble and as such, he is constantly on the lookout for attack. He rarely goes to Menzoberranzan, but still keeps track of its unfolding events.

Experience Points (+10%): 2,497,730.

Experience Points for Next Level: 2,625,000.

Locales Frequented: He spends most of his time in the Western Heartlands, the surrounding Underdark, briefly the North, and in his early youth Menzoberranzan.

Motivations/Goals: Yazston has a burning desire to prove himself as even better than the renowned archmagi of Menzoberranzan, and create lasting deaths among the arcane scholars.

Campaign Uses: Yazston is an avid spell creator, trader and researcher of the arcane; furthermore, he is onto a devious plot that will once again give birth to his noble family line with the recreation of House DeVir.

Unique Abilities:

  • Blood's Weave: From use of permanency and experimentation, Yazston has gained the permanent effects of detect invisibility, protection from evil, protection from good, protection from paralysis, and read magic.
  • Contingencies: Always expecting attack, as all drow should, Yazston has the following spells protecting his person at all times: blood lighting, contingency (whenever attacked in melee a dark blast is unleashed, centered on himself), invisible mail (absorbing 17 hit points of nonmagical damage), and stoneskin.
  • Enhanced Senses: From his familiar, Yazston has a +1 bonus on all surprise rolls, and can detect invisible objects and creatures in any given round on a roll of 1-4 on a d6.
  • Fate's Callings: From a draw from a deck of many things, Yazston can: "Avoid any situation he chooses...once", and from a wish from the same item, he also now gains his Constitution bonus as if he were a warrior.
  • Resistance Reduction: From his innate magical resistance, knowledge of such defenses and constant dealings with other resistant creatures, Yazston automatically lowers the magic resistance of any one his magic affects by 21%. Although while wearing his DeVir chain mail he lowers it by 32%, instead of the above 21%.

Yazston's Mantle: Yazston's mantle bears 9 hit points and has the following powers and abilities:

  • The ability to stand against repulsion, to control temperature within itself by 10 plus 1d12 degrees either way from the outside environment, and to quell winds within or acting upon the mantle, including gusts of wind.
  • Feather fall.
  • Fly (caster and mantle together).
  • Levitate (caster and mantle together).
  • Protection from normal missiles.
  • Telekinesis.
  • A bonus of +2 on all saving throws vs. spell.
  • An additional +1 bonus on saves vs. Enchantment/Charm and Illusion/Phantasm spells (cumulative with the above bonus), with saving throws allowed every round, one successful save breaking the spell.
  • Mantle can be made to glow with faerie fire (hue and intensity of the caster's choice; cannot be made blinding)
  • The ability to negate (aquire utter immunity to) chromatic orb, magic missile, lightning bolt, disintegrate, finger of death. Furthermore, each contact of this spell with the mantle adds 1 hit point to it vs. magical attempts to dispel, alter, or shatter it.
  • The ability to boost (unleash at full possible effects) dark pulse, dark pulses, dark pulse III, dark blast, and dark bolts when cast by the mantle wearer.
