July 8, 1995 Two Rebels are selected in the NHL Entry Draft. Mike McBain (Tampa Bay - 2nd round), Pete Leboutillier (Anaheim - 6th round).
July 9, 1995 The Rebels hire Rick Carriere as the teams Head Coach. Carriere is the Rebels second ever coach, Peter Anholt resigned after the 94-95 season. The Rebels hire Dave “Radar” Horning as Trainer. He replaces Scott Grimwood. Grimwood had been with the team since August 21, 1992.
July 14, 1995 The Rebels select David Hruska seventh overall in the European Draft. Hruska was a sixth round pick of the Ottawa Senators in the 1995 NHL Draft
August 10, 1995 Jeff Chynoweth, the Rebels Director of Operations, will resign September 15. Chynoweth was the Rebels first ever employee hired August 27, 1991. Pat Garritty is promoted to Director of Marketing and Public Relations from Ticket Sales Representative.
August 23, 1995 The Rebels hire Ron Lebsack as the new Ticket Sales Representative
August 25, 1995 The Rebels open Training Camp. 150 players take part in Rookie and Main Camp
September 19, 1995 The Rebels acquire 17 year old defenseman Harlan Pratt from the Seattle Thunderbirds for 20 year old forward Dan Tompkins
September 20, 1995 The Rebels deal 19 year old defenseman Chris Maillet to the Medicine Hat Tigers for future considerations
September 23, 1995 The Rebels host the first year Calgary Hitmen in the season opener. The Rebels win 5-4 in overtime in front of 6,372 fans at the Centrium. David Hruska scored the winning goal. Chris Wickenheiser made 21 saves for the win.
October 5, 1995 The Rebels release 19 year old forward Berkley Pennock
October 9, 1995 BJ Young scores a hat trick against the Lethbridge Hurricanes in an 8-4 Rebels win in Red Deer.
October 18, 1995 After local “Drummond Brewery” closes its doors, the Rebels sign a sponsorship deal with Labatt Breweries Canada.
October 20, 1995 David Hruska sets a team record with 5 goals in one game. The Rebels beat Medicine Hat 8-2. Hruska scored once in the first period, once in the second period and three times in the third period.
October 30, 1995 The Rebels release 19 year old forward Tony Vlastelic
November 7, 1995 The Rebels acquire 18 year old forward Mike Broda from the Moose Jaw Warriors for future considerations. Broda was a ninth round pick of the New York Islanders in the 1995 NHL Draft.
November 21, 1995 The Rebels release 18 year old forward Scott Lega.
November 29, 1995 The Rebels release 18 year old forward Bryan Boorman.
December 6, 1995 BJ Young sets a team record for fastest goal at the start of a game scoring 0:06 into the first period against Medicine Hat. The Rebels and the Tigers tie 4-4 in Red Deer.
December 13, 1995 David Hruska leaves the Rebels. The 18 year old rookie returned home to the Czech Republic. He had 14 goals and 14 assists in 28 games.
December 11, 1995 The Rebels trade a 4th round bantam draft pick to the Seattle Thunderbirds for Lloyd Shaw. Shaw is a 4th round pick of the Vancouver Canucks in the 1995 draft.
December 29, 1995 BJ Young scores 4 times against the Regina Pats in a 7-6 Rebels win, including the overtime winner. It’s Young’s second hat trick of the season.
January 6, 1996 The Tri-City Americans won 5-0 over the Red Deer Rebels in Kenniwick, Washington. Aaron Baker makes 24 saves for the shutout.
January 24, 1996 Chris Wickenheiser makes 28 saves in a 6-0 shutout of the Saskatoon Blades.
February 21, 1996 The Regina Pats won 10-0 over the Rebels in Regina. Chad Mercier and Aaron Mori make 20 saves to combine for the shutout.
February 23, 1996 Greg Schimdt is named as the Rebels 1995-96 Player of the Year.
March 8, 1996 Greg Schmidt scores 4 straight goals for Red Deer in the Rebels 5-4 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors.
March 10, 1996 BJ Young gets his 3rd hat trick of the season in a 4-3 win over the Swift Current Broncos. Young sets a team record for most hat tricks in a season with 3.
March 17, 1996 The Rebels win 4-1 over the Lethbridge Hurricanes in Red Deer, to end the regular season with a 28-39-5 record. BJ Young leads the team in scoring with 49 goals and 94 points.
March 18, 1996 The Rebels announce that the Club has raised more than $36,000 for local organizations in the 1995-96 season through home games and promotional activities.
March 25, 1996 The Rebels win 3-0 over the Swift Current Broncos. Chris Wickenheiser makes 25 saves for the shutout. The Rebels ties the series at 2 games each after losing the first two games in Swift Current.
March 29, 1996 The Rebels win their first playoff series 4 games to 2 over the Swift Current Broncos with a 4-2 win in front of 6,274 fans. Arron Asham scored two goals in the win.
April 1, 1996 The Rebels open the East Division Semi Final with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings. Kelly Smart scored at the 12:39 mark of overtime.
April 5, 1996 The Brandon Wheat Kings win 7-2 over the Rebels and win the East Division Semi Final in 4 straight games.
April 8, 1996 Goaltender Chris Wickenheiser is named the Destiny Charters and Tours Top Playoff Performer. Wickenheiser posted a 3.71 goals against average in 10 playoff games and a .901 save percentage.
April 26, 1996 At the WHL Bantam Draft, the Rebels take Justin Mapletoft in the first round, sixth overall. The expansion Edmonton Ice take Steve McCarthy first overall.
May 23, 1996 In the WHL
Expansion Draft, the Edmonton Ice take Jay Henderson from the Rebels.
Henderson had played two seasons with the Rebels, scoring 40 points in
125 games.
