June 21, 1997   The Rebels have three players taken in the NHL Entry Draft.  Mike Brown (Florida - 1st round), Kyle Kos (Tampa Bay - 2nd round), BJ Young (Detroit - 6th round).

June 25, 1997   The Rebels trade 18 year old forward Mike Brown, the team’s first round pick in 1994, to the Kamloops Blazers for 19 year old forward Shawn McNeil.  McNeil was the Washington Capitals third round pick in 1996.

August 25, 1997  The Rebels open training camp with 125 players involved with Rookie and Main Camp.

September 26, 1997  The Rebels open the season in Edmonton against the Ice.  The Rebels win 5-3 with Arron Asham scoring the winning goal.

October 31, 1997  The Calgary Hitmen defeat the Rebels 6-3 in Calgary.  The Rebels drop to 6-9-0 on the season.  Head Coach Rick Carriere is relieved of his coaching duties.  Carriere was 67-75-8 as the Rebels Coach and 13-13 in the playoffs.  Assistant Coach Doug Hobson takes over and becomes the third ever Rebels Coach.

November 1, 1997  The Rebels beat the Hitmen in Red Deer 4-3 in the debut of Doug Hobson as the Rebels Head Coach.  Frank Mrazek scored the winning goal.

November 18, 1997  Former Medicine Hat Tigers coach Kurt Lackten becomes Assistant Coach.

January 9, 1998  The Rebels trade 17 year old goaltender Cam Ondrik to the Medicine Hat Tigers for 18 year old goaltender Dustin Schwartz

January 10, 1998  Dustin Schwartz makes his first start in a Rebels uniform.  Schwartz stops 31 shots in a 3-0 shutout of the Prince Albert Raiders at the Centrium.

January 28, 1998  Shawn McNeil scores three times in a 7-6 win over the Pats in Regina.  It’s just the 4th win ever for the Rebels in Regina during the regular season.

March 14, 1998  The Rebels lose 5-3 in Medicine Hat to end the regular season with a 27-40-5 record and 3rd in the Central Division.

March 22, 1998  The Rebels win 4-3 over the Swift Current Broncos in game three of the first round of the playoffs.  The Broncos lead the series 2 games to 1.

March 25, 1998  Swift Current wins 5-2 over the Rebels.  The Broncos win the series 4 games to 1.

April 30, 1998   The Rebels select Doug Lynch in the first round, seventh overall of the WHL Bantam Draft.  Lynch is a defenseman from Coquitlam B.C.  The first overall pick is Jay Boumeester by the Medicine Hat Tigers.

May 31, 1998   Head Coach Doug Hobson’s and Assistant Coach Kurt Lackten’s contracts are not renewed.   Hobson was the Rebels 3rd coach in team history.
