June 3, 1998   The Rebels sign a 3-year deal with Radio 7 CKRD that sees the Rebels take over the radio broadcasts of all their games.  The Rebels will employ the play-by-play announcer and assume all creative control and sales.

June 22, 1998   The Rebels hire Cam Moon as the new Director Radio Broadcast/Media Relations for the Club.

June 28, 1998   Five Rebels are selected in the NHL Entry Draft.  Stephen Peat (Anaheim - 2nd round), Lance Ward (Florida - 3rd round), Robert Schnabel (Phoenix - 5th round), Chris Ovington (Florida - 6th round), Brent McDonald (Carolina - 9th round).

July 2, 1998   The Rebels select Lukas Bednarik , 19th overall, in the CHL Import Draft.

August 10, 1998  Terry Simpson is named the Rebels fourth Head Coach in team history.  Peter Anholt, the Rebels original Head Coach, is named Assistant Coach

August 21, 1998  Rookie Camp opens

August 28, 1998  Main Camp opens

August 30, 1998  The Black teams defeates the White team 8-4 in the Inter-Squad game at the Centrium.  Frank Mrazek scores 2 goals and 1 assist for the White.

September 25, 1998  The Rebels host the Kootenay Ice (formerly Edmonton) in the season opener.  The Ice win 5-2 in front of 5,016 fans at the Centrium.

October 5, 1998  The Rebels acquire 19 year old forward Bobby Duncan from the Tri-City Americans for future considerations.

October 6, 1998  The NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes sign 20 year old defenseman Robert Schnabel to a contract.  Schnabel leaves the Rebels to join the Springfield Falcons, the Coyotes American Hockey League affiliate.

October 8, 1998  The Calgary Hitmen defeat the Rebels 7-5 at the Saddledome to hand Red Deer their 5th straight loss to start the season.

October 15, 1998  The Rebels add 16 year old defenseman Jay Batchelor from Junior ‘B’ in North Delta B.C.

October 23, 1998  The Rebels acquire 19 year old goaltender Jordan Watt from the Kelowna Rockets for future considerations.

October 27, 1998  19 year old forward Brad Leeb is named the team’s sixth captain.

October 30, 1998  Goaltender Jordan Watt makes his first start in a Rebels uniform.  Watt makes 24 saves in a 5-0 shutout of the Saskatoon Blades at Saskatchewan Place.

November 5, 1998  The Rebels acquire 20 year old defenseman Drew Kehler from the Regina Pats for future considerations.

November 6, 1998  Defenseman Scott D. McQueen is dealt to the Saskatoon Blades for future considerations

November 12, 1998  The Rebels send 17 year old goaltender Michael Clague to the Lebret Eagles of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

November 19, 1998  The Rebels add 18 year old forward Kent Beagle from the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League

December 4, 1998  The Rebels lose 6-4 in Prince George to finish their 3-game B.C. road trip 0-3.  The Rebels bus hits a moose on the trip back to Red Deer.  The bus receives minor damage.

December 10, 1998  The Rebels give up future considerations to re-acquire 18 year old forward Brad Rohrig from the Swift Current Broncos

January 3, 1998  The Calgary Hitmen defeat the Rebels 4-1 at the Centrium.   The Rebels have lost 7 of their last 9 games.  Pavel Brendl scored the winning goal for the Hitmen.

January 4, 1999  The Rebels complete 3 trades in one day, a new team record.  The Rebels send 19 year old defenseman Kyle Kos to the Kamloops Blazers for 17 year old defenseman Adam Dombrowski, 18 year old defenseman Stephen Peat is traded to Tri-City for 18 year defenseman Regan Darby and 18 year old forward Jarrett Thompson, 19 year old forward Brent McDonald is sent to Prince George for 19 year old forward Jordan Walker.

January 9, 1999  The Rebels lose 6-1 in Moose Jaw.  Shawn McNeil scores the Rebels only goal, his 300th career point in the WHL.

January 11, 1999  The Rebels send 16 year old forward Andrew Coates, and 17 year old forward Jeff Smith back to their respective midget teams.

January 19, 1999  The Rebels add 16 year old forward Jay Vidrine from  triple ‘A’ midget in Alaska

January 29, 1999  Lukas Bednarik scores 4 goals against the Portland Winter Hawks at the Rose Garden in Portland.  The Rebels win 6-2.  It’s the first time in team history the Rebels have played in the Rose Garden.

February 1, 1999  While on the teams American road trip , the Rebels make two trades.  Devin Francon, an 18 year old forward is dealt to Regina for future considerations.  The Rebels also acquire 19 year old defenseman Ryan Bonni from the Saskatoon Blades for 18 year old defenseman Chris Ovington.

March 5, 1999   Brad Leeb is named the McDonald’s Player of the Year by fan balloting.  Rebels defeat the Tri-City Americans 5-4.  Shawn McNeil scores the winning goal with 23 seconds left in the third period in front of 5,666 fans at the Centrium.

March 20, 1999  The Rebels defeat the Saskatoon Blades 9-2 in front of 5,063 at the Centrium to finish the regular season.  The Rebels win 7 of their last 9 games to end the season with a 34-33-5 record, second in the Central Division.  Shawn McNeil scores 3 goals and ends the season with 103 points.  That gives McNeil 212 points in 2 season with the Rebels.   Dustin Schwartz sets a new regular season team record for goals against average with 3.30.

March 21, 1999  The Rebels seventh Awards Banquet is held at the Capri Center.   Shawn McNeil wins four awards (MVP, Players Trophy (player ballot), Leading Scorer, Labatt Blue Cup Three Star).

March 23, 1999  Rebel Forward Kevin Marsh is the Eastern Conference nominee for the Humanitarian of the Year.  Marsh does not take the League award.  Andrew Ference of the Portland Winter Hawks wins the League honor.

March 24, 1999  The Rebels start their first round in the playoffs on the road with a 5-2 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings.  Lukas Bednarik scores 1 goal and 2 assists, Dustin Schwartz makes 29 saves.

March 30, 1999  The Rebels win 7-3 against Brandon to take the series 4 games to 1.  The game was played in Regina because of the Royal Manitoba Fair that left the Wheat Kings without the Keystone Center.  Shawn McNeil and  Jarrett Thompson each scores twice for Red Deer.

April 5, 1999   The Rebels take on the Calgary Hitmen in the first game of the Eastern Division Semi-Final.  The Hitmen win 6-3 to take a 1 game to nothing lead in the series.  Pavel Brendl scored 4 straight goals for the Hitmen.

April 6,1999   The Calgary Hitmen win 4-3 in overtime in Red Deer to take a 2 games to nothing lead in the series.  Pavel Brendl scored at 3:20 of overtime in front of 5,013 fans at the Centrium.

April 9, 1999   The Calgary Hitmen sweep the Rebels in 4 straight games with a 3-1 win in front of 5,861 fans at the Centrium.  Shawn McNeil scores the only goal for the Rebels.

April 12, 1999   Goaltender Dustin Schwartz is named the Destiny Charter Tour’s Top Playoff Performer.

April 29, 1999   The Rebels select Derek Meech in the first round, ninth overall, in the WHL Bantam Draft.

May 11, 1999   Wayne and Terry Simpson announce that they have sold the franchise to Brent Sutter, who will take over as General manager and Head Coach.
