THE MEANING OF FRIENDSHIP Friends are those who care enough to look behind the smile And understand the fear that lies within To know your every weakness But talk about your strength To guide you without pushing Till your confident again Friends are those who take the time To read within the lines And know the clown would like a change of part To go on stage without the paint To cry instead of laugh Forget the script and play it from the heart Friends are rare, but rarer still Are people just like you Who have my pledge of lifelong loyalty And should I spend my life in role The painted, laughing clown I'll know you know the other side of me You give me strength to carry on when I find I'm losing hope Through the whirlpools of the changing tides You are my safety rope You show me that there is a way To keep myself afloat Though I'm weighted down with doubts and fears And await a rescue boat Each time a wave sweeps over me And I fear that I may drown I hear you whisper in my ear you won't let us down If we can beat the devil kid We know that you can too So I raise my head and take a breath Just like you taught me to I know I'll make it to the shore And walk on solid ground I know not where that shore may be But I'll be safe and sound For you have taught me well my friends And I have naught to fear I have my health, I have my faith And I have you sisters dear
THANK YOU (Dedicated to my friend M J Jones) How can I repay you For the love you've given me Through years of tears and laughter You've been my sanctuary You know my each and every fault But willingly forgive You offer me direction when I choose a troubled path If I were from your body I could not love you more I bless the circumstances That led me to your door I hope I can repay you Return in some small way The treasures you've bestowed on me With the help of God I may
Won't someone help me get rid of the Demons Eating away at my soul day by day I'm weak and permissive, I want to be strong I'd like to be happy but don't know the way I want to love someone and have him love me But afraid I'll be hurt in the end I'm so superficial, no depth to my feelings I don't even know how to be a good friend Yet people surround me Believe in my strength They don't want to listen when I say I'm a fraud My life is a shambles, empty and lonely I don't want to look down the pathway I've trod There's someone inside me who tries to escape But I'm in control so I hide her away I pray she keeps fighting Emerging the victor Then maybe I'll find some contentment some say
THE PIPER The silence sounds like thunder pounding in my ears The loneliness in closing in and I have to fight my fears When I think of how it could have been I can't control my tears And I realize the piper must be paid I played a game , the stakes were high There's no one I can blame If I knew then what I know now would the outcome be the same? I thought I's find contentment but contentment never came And now the piper must be paid I hurt the ones I loved the most because I thought I knew What was best for all concerned, and now the payment's due I'll pay with tears and loneliness, regret and heartache too But at least the piper will be paid Someday when all the guilt is gone and the past is laid to rest I'll be free to love again and I vow I'll do my best To give instead of taking and consider myself blessed When at last the piper has been paid First impressions are the truth! My mother used to say I never doubted mother's words That's the Scottish way How many friends I wonder Have I lost along the way? Who in my blinkered judgment Blew it! right away I hope you have forgiven me My narrow minded view I'm learning some humility Admittedly past due Since stepping off my pedestal It seems I've blown a few I hope my jury's fairer Than I was to you
