Misato Katsuragi. A delightful and outgoing woman, strong willed and sometimes immature. Although she may act this way, she must never be underestimated for she takes her work seriously. She is Nerv's Operations Chief and Shinji's immediate superior. She is also acting guardian over Shinji and Asuka. She seems to hate the Angels and is determined to have her revenge against them for causing the Second Impact and for the death of her father. The event was very traumatic for her. Her father gave up his life in order for her to escape. She was recovered from her physical wounds quickly but the mental wounds was not easy to recover from: she did not speak for two years.

She met Ritsuko Akagi during college and they became very good friends. There, she also met Kaji Ryoji. They became lovers but they soon broke up. The reason: Misato got frightened because she "saw" her father in Kaji. But it seems that Misato was looking for her father in men. They got back together again later on.
