The Story

Around the end of the 27th century Earth is an exploited and destroyed planet. Climate. Nations. All were in upheavel. The Ceres wars, excessive environmental pollution, global warming and the contaminated radiation that enters through a perforated atmosphere, have turned this once blue planet into a grayish-brownish sphere of sludge. Humanity has long overcome its collective feeling of guilt for the state Earth is in, and has begun to search for a new home. Finally they make a strike in a distant part of space. In the course of various decades gigantic treks transport the majority of humanity to the planet Irata 3. The remnants of the world`s population regrouped behind the protective walls of three teaming mega metropolis: Neocron, Dome of York and Tokyo II. Safety shields, artificial atmospheres and magnetic fields protect these cities against contaminated radiation that makes survival without a heavy protective gear outside the metropolis impossible.

The three cities communicate with each other and with the new world of Irata 3 via satellites in Earth's orbit. Earth's aerospace research and spaceship production has been closed down and re-located to Irata 3. The closed industry complexes have left ugly, rusting steel cemeteries in the metropolis: The Outzones. In the course of just a few generations they have become the new ghettos for the homeless and the freaks. While the attempts of maintaining law and order in the Outzones was soon given up, the remaining districts of the cities live in a civilized order. The expected looting and chaos that were feared after the great treks did not take place. The humans left on Earth live in peace. But this peace is heavily monitored by the police. The CopBots.

The majority of Earth's atmosphere has meanwhile developed into a cocktail of different extremely hazardous gases and chemicals. Under the influence of unfiltered cosmic radiation a new and highly energetic substance has developed. Chemists have named it Hyperion. Currently various experiments are being carried out to use this gas for the production of energy. According to scientists, Hyperion can be compared to the atmospheric composition of prehistoric Earth where life once formed from.

In the spring of 2890 the citizens of Irata 3 establish first contact with an alien intelligence. Shortly after contact to the new world breaks off and cannot be re-established in the following months.
