GRAVESEND AND NORTHFLEET 0 MARGATE 1
HR WIDTH="95%" ALIGN=CENTER> Kent Senior Cup Final
5th May 1998

To be perfectly honest, there is not a great deal that I rmember about the day in general, let alone the game itself! The traditional 'find any excuse to have a beer or thirty-six' chestnut came out and 17 hours of drinking surrounded this joyous occasion.
Once again though, Margate's board should be proud of the way that their supporters came out in force and got behind the side far more vocally than the home fans. From kick off until the finish we got behind the team and the pitch invasion at the end signalled the releif at a successful end to an amazing season.
It was never going to be an easy encounter. Despite the fact that Gravesend had not had the best of seasons they were still a division higher than us, theoretically. Also this was to be our sixty-sixth game and legs were beginning to wear out. Indeed the game was scrappy but we had the best of the first half and deserved to have more than a one goal lead at half time. I would describe Tony Dixons goal to you if I could remember it. All I can remember at the moment is the ball hitting the back of the net, me running down the terrace, leaping the barrier and suddenly finding myself on the edge of the penalty area embracing the players. Hopefully, like in all alchohol induced amnesias, more will come back to me given time.
The second half was more scrappy than the first and despite having the best of the pressure Gravesend never really looked like scoring. The final whistle went, we ran on the pitch, Tony picked up another Trophy, Bill Edwards got another man of the match, I scored in the same goal as Tony got the winner, we carried on drinking. That is all I remember. Sorry!
