Alright people, we're
going to pass under the bridge |
 |
|
We're getting
closer... |
 |
|
and closer...and... |
 |
|
we've passed the
bridge! Why didn't I take a shot of the
bridge down under? Look, I wanted to but the whole shot
would just be nothing more than reinforced steel support. |

|
Can you see a group of
people up at the top of the bridge? |

The Sydney Harbour Bridge is one of Sydney's most famous landmarks.
Before the bridges existence, the only links between the city centre in the south and the residential north were by ferry or by a 20 kilometre road route that involved five bridge
crossings! The bridge also has railroad line and has a height of
134 metres above sea level.
Construction started as early as 1926. The bridge was built by 1400 workers, 16 of whom were killed in accidents during construction. Painting the bridge
was an daunting job. Approximately 80,000 litres of paint are required for each coat, enough to cover an area equivalent to 60 soccer
fields! It took eight years to build and the Sydney Harbour Bridge was officially opened on 19 March 1932. The total cost of the Bridge was approximately
$A13.5 million, and was eventually paid off in 1988 from usage
tolls. More than 150,000 vehicles cross the bridge each day.
