Dr. Genzai (Genzai-sensei) is the town doctor and Kaoru's adopted grandfather. He takes care of everyone when they are sick, and more importantly tends to help them after battles (Kenshin seems to be especially prone to needing this type of attention).

He eventually takes on Megumi as his personal assistant and always brings by Ayame and Suzume to play at the Kamiya Dojo.

He loves the feel of nature and one of the scariest things I've seen was him running around in his underwear while dumping a bucket of water on his head. Unfortunately for him his back gave out in this morning exercise and Megumi had to take over the practice for a while...
