Hiko Seijuro is the 13th successor to the Hitten Mitsurugi Ryu style and Kenshin's mentor. He has unbreakable confidence and will, and even seems like a maniacal egotist at times but no one can say that he doesn't know what he's doing. Even when faced with an 80 foot giant, Hiko easily defends Yahiko from being smashed and makes sure to smile arrogantly the whole time. He also thinks poorly of those who can't enjoy good sake.

One day while sitting by a stream contemplating the disease that man had become and drinking sake hiko ran into a band of raiders attacking a small group of people. Unfortunately for them he happened on the scene after they had all been killed; all but one. After obliterating the raiders (they were destroyed as if a bomb exploded them from the inside O_O) he tells the boy that ill will towards the raiders will not bring the people back, and that he has avenged their deaths. He then continues his journey and points the child in the direction of the nearest village.

Upon returning to the scene, to hiko's amazement, the boy has buried all of the bodies and even tried to make gravestones for the 3 girls who tried to protect them.

Hiko offers good sake to their graves and decided to take on the boy, Shinta, as the next successor to the Hitten Mitsurugi Style. Since Shinta was not a name fit for a warrior Hiko renamed the boy Kenshin...

In an interesting note Hiko taught Kenshin all of his moved, but has displayed speed with his sword that Kenshin has never even shown. He also does not share Kenshin's vow of no killing, and since Kenshin left he has changed his name and lives as a sculptor on the outskirts of kyoto.
