There are several disciplines, each dedicated to a certain focus on casting, or channeling. The disciplines can be divided into two categories: clerical and post-clerical. These two terms refer to the origins of mages, which were typically a priest of holy man of some sort. In the last five millennia the various disciplines have become secular for the most part. Each discipline is capable of unique advantages, which is why they still exist today. The following is a list of these disciplines, the mechanics behind them, and their particular methodology, or focus.
- Chi: Clerical
Mechanics: Meditation.
Focus: Meditation, physical.
Notes: Chi refers to several different physical-based disciplines. Temporarily enhances abilities.
- Druids: Clerical
Mechanics: Chanting and meditation.
Focus: Nature-based, and spiritual-based spells.
Notes: One of the oldest organized forms of magic. Known for innovation, diverrsity, power and mystic theory.
- Healers: Clerical
Mechanics: Chanting, mediation.
Focus: Spiritual.
Notes: Healing known to be painful. Uses mystic energy from within patient and themselves to heal.
- Magicians: Non-Clerical
Mechanics: Ingredients, Chanting.
Focus: Elemental, imbuement, psionic.
Notes: Referred to as practical mages, compared to other crafts more theoretical angles.
- Necromancers: Clerical
Mechanics: Chanting, chemical (corpses, evidence).
Focus: Spiritual, meditative.
Notes: Contrary to popular belief, it focuses on causes of death and forensic investigation.
- Paladins-Ivory Order: Clerical
Mechanics: Chanting, meditation
Focus: Spiritual, Meditation
Notes: Very similar to Healers. Dedicated to crisis handling, as well as forbidden magic.
- Paladins-Steel Order: Clerical
Mechanics: Meditation
Focus: Meditation, Physical
Notes: Newly commissioned order influenced by Chi Masters. Dedicated to combat.
- Shamans: Clerical
Mechanics: Chanting, ingredients, and meditation.
Focus: Spiritual-based spells
Notes: The oldest form of magic use. Simple, weak spells, with a greater degree of spell diversity
- Sorcerers: Non-Clerical
Mechanics: Meditation, ingredients (powders, fumes).
Focus: Mental/Psionic based spells.
Notes: Focused solely on the mind, perception and the senses.
- Warlocks: Non-Clerical
Mechanics: Ingredients, Chanting.
Focus: Elemental, necromantic, spiritual.
Notes: One of the most complicated disciplines. Rarely practiced outside of Greylan.
- Witches: Non-Clerical
Mechanics: Varies
Focus: Varies
Notes: Witches are self-taught mages. Weaker, but with a greater degree of spell diversity.
- Wizards: Non-Clerical
Mechanics: Chanting
Focus: Elemental (Earth, Fire, Wind, Water) spells.
Notes: Unlike natural spells, Wizardry utilizes pure elemental energies.
