In addition, Johnny Canales presented Al with the “Song Of The Year” award.
Grupo Mayo has over 25 albums to their credit, and their romantic smooth style has sustained them to present day. Still enormously popular, the group plays regularly throughout Texas and surrounding states. Al Chavarria Y Grupo Mayo has recorded for such labels as RCA International, Freddie, Joey and Hacienda.
Al Chavarria y Grupo Mayo have maintained a strong staying power and their music enjoys a new resurgence as a result of the growing popularity of Tejano Music. This new CD “El Manicero” marks the first new release for this group in several years. They just keep getting better!!

• BIG CIRCO
Presenta el Acto Fuerte de su
"SEGUNDA FUNCION"

• Tina y Los Gallitos
"The Youngest Conjunto in America"

By listening to their music, a music fan could not determine the age or the years together as a group. However, Tina y Los Gallitos is not your everyday musical group. Their age, talent and musical chemistry together make them a musical prodigy. The core of the Conjunto is the three family members. Robert, Tina, and John Vega are the foundation of Tina y Los Gallitos.
Robert Vega is 17 years of age and plays accordion and sings lead vocals. Tina Vega is 16 years of age and plays bajo sexto and sings back up vocals. She is one of the few female bajo players in the industry. The youngest member of the band is John, who is presently 12 years of age. John Vega plays bass and sings second voice on most songs. Robert and Tina began learning to play their respective instruments at the age of nine. John started learning to play at the early age of six years. It was his sister Tina that taught him to play bass.
All the children of the Familia Vega were born in the greater Houston area. Their parents made the decision to home school their children in order that they could pursue a musical career as a group. This advantage allows the family more time to practice together and to go on the road when necessary.
Their musical influences are Tony Dela Rosa, Ramon Ayala, Flaco Jimenez, Los Tigres Del Norte and Jaime y Los Chamacos. Tina y Los Gallitos began playing professionally in the fall of 1999. They have performed at many private family functions, Mexican rodeos and public dances. San Antonio, Wharton, Beasley and Austin are some of the cities that the group has traveled to perform. The talented young conjunto has been privileged to open up for Conjunto Oro, Los Dos Gilbertos, and Jennifer Pena. This past November the group was invited to perform at the 2002 Fiesta Houston Concert opening for Ramon Ayala, Fito Olivares and David Lee Garza y Los Musicales.
Their goals are to sign with a record label and get an album out to the market. Tina y Los Gallitos also plan to finish their home schooling, become full time musicians and tour the USA and Mexico. The musical prodigies have just signed a management and booking agreement with TJS Productions of Houston in hopes to expand their future in this industry.

•La Onda Wins the Billboard Latin Award for
Best Album of the Year/New Artist
La Onda was recently awarded with the Premio Billboard (Billboard
Award)in a public ceremony held in Miami, Florida. The talents of the
two leading and founding members of the band, the SESAC Latina
affiliated composers Rodolfo "Rudy" Gonzalez and Jose "Pepe" Torres,
whose alternative "nortena" cumbia have energized the entire continent,
is also being recognized.
The Onda, has won said award in the category of Album of the Year/New
Artist, in the category of Regional Mexican Music, for the recording
that marked their successful recording debut. Released by EMI Latin in
October 2002, the album is titled "A Toda Onda" (At Full Wave).
With this album, the group received national recognition in the most
important television programs in the United States and at events that
took place in different countries, including Chile, where they performed
at the closing of the highly attended Telethon in the Estadio Nacional
de Santiago in front of more than 70 thousand spectators.
The young composers Rodolfo "Rudy" Gonzalez and Jose "Pepe" Torres write
together and separately.
"Rudy" is a composer and arranger; and as a musician he plays the
accordion, the drums, the guitar and piano. "Pepe" plays base.
Often during long trips as band members they get their joint inspiration
anywhere and collaborate especially during bohemian evenings.
The second album by La Onda, titled "Otra Onda" (Another Wave) includes
three songs written by both: the cumbias "Yo No Se" (I Don't Know) and
" Baby", and the ballad "Poco A Poco" (Little by Little).
Rodolfo "Rudy" Gonzalez was the sole composer of the song titled
" Cultiviri" and Pepe, was the sole composer for "Esta Bueno."
Professionals in every sense of the word, both composers have known each
other for many years. They had a group that performed in local events
before La Onda was formed. Both were born in Tamaulipas, Mexico.
The other members of La Onda are Sergio Ramirez, drums; Paco Miranda,
base; and Yessica Ruiz and Belen Gutierrez, vocalists.
Sergio and Lupe Degollado, the leads of the group Control, came up with
the concept and format for this mixed group. They've directed their
record productions and are the owners of Degollado Publishing, whose
publishing company is also affiliated with SESAC Latina.
