DJ KANE
As former lead vocalist for A.B. Quintanilla y Los Kumbia Kings, DJ Kane offered up smooth vocals on top of Tejano, cumbia, and R&B rhythms. Kane plays up the pop and R&B elements on his self-titled debut album, but he still can't escape the Kings' sound. The Houston-born, Brooklyn-bred performer kicks off his album with "La Negra Tomasa," and his zippy cumbia take on the Cuban classic (which was also one of Los Caifanes' earliest hits) would sound right at home on any of the Kings' past efforts. Kane also peppers his album with tender R&B ballads, another of the Kumbia Kings' calling cards. The best of the bunch is "Mia," co-written by Backstreet Boy Howie Dorough. To maximize crossover appeal, the song is featured in English, Spanish, and cumbia versions, a trick often used by--you guessed it--the Kumbia Kings. Kane is a confident, charismatic singer, but it's a mystery why he chose to venture out on his own when his sound is still so clearly tied to his past musical life. --Joey Guerra

Grupo Rodeo is making an exciting comeback, celebrating the return of its original lead singers. That’s right: brothers Marco and Alfonso Jaime, who served as vocalists for the San Antonio-based group from 1993-97, are back.
And their brotherly vocal blend sounds better than ever on the new album Nuevos Caminos.

The Jaimes and Rodeo founder Frank Villarreal Jr. got to talking during spring 2004 and realized that they
still wanted to make superb music together. “It feels great because we had a real good thing going, a good chemistry,” Frank says. “And the chemistry is still there.”

You can see it when they play live and the crowds are more enthusiastic than ever.
You can hear it on the first single “No Te Puedo Olvidar,” a catchy cumbia written by Pete Bustamante
and Mark Ledezma. Harmonies that tight and emotion that real are hard to come by in today’s music scene.
Rodeo also puts a new spin on some great tunes of yesteryear, adding sax and accordion to the irresistible cumbia
“El Cafetal” and reinventing the José Alfredo Jiménez chestnut “Sin Sangre en las Venas.”

Rodeo makes musical excellence look easy, but the group has built its reputation on a solid foundation of
experience. Villarreal Jr., the group's musical director, played sax and keyboard with Emilio Navaira's
Grupo Río and arranged their first four albums. His superb sax playing can be heard on recordings by
Latin music stars La Mafia, Jay Pérez and Eddie González among others. Villarreal handles producing and
arranging duties, and co-writes many of Rodeo's songs.

Naming the band Rodeo was Villarreal's idea. He used to tell friends he had the perfect name for a group, but if anyone asked him what that name was, he'd just smile and say it was a secret. In June 1993 the secret was out, as Rodeo impressed critics and fans with its debut release Step By Step. Rodeo followed up in 1994 with the CD Unidos,
featuring the monster hit "Cobardemente." The group's third release, Nuestro Tiempo (1996) yielded a hit remake
of the conjunto classic "Cuatro Cartas."

Rodeo's 1997 CD Sobreviviendo produced another classic, the smash cumbia "Esta Vez."
In 2000, the group signed with Luxor Records, releasing 2000 (Dos Mil), and earning a Tejano Music Awards
nomination for Showband of the Year. That album featured the multiformat hit “El Baile de Rodeo.”
Rodeo released its second Luxor album, Estrellita del Norte, in 2002.

K1

K1 is the new sensation in Latin music, fusing rhythms and cultures in their music as much as in their look and their performances. Originally from Texas and Illinois, the band has the boy-next-door appeal and a powerful musical formula that mixes hip-hop, R&B, rap, vallenato and salsa transcends the usual thump-thump of pop songs to deliver what must be the new sound of American mainstream music, Latin rhythms included.

K1 (abbreviation for Kings One) is a new name for a group of young and passionate performers who had their first taste of fame and popularity as members of million-selling, award winning Kumbia Kings. K1’s following throughout the United States remains constant, with packed performances, incessant screams from the young fans and the mass hysteria reserved for true musical phenomenons, as was the case during their recent autograph sessions and performances in Miami, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin. The future of the band was not always certain. When they decided to part ways with Kumbia Kings, all they knew was that they had to leave, for the sake of their musical health. After one year of work on a new album and truly difficult times, when food and a roof over their head were scarce, K1 continued to tour and perform, digging into their own savings to take care of production expenses. Just as their dream was about to dissipate into sounds on a tape, they were located and contacted by OLE Music, led by renowned record executive Oscar Llord (Ricky Martin, Elvis Crespo, Son By Four, Shakira, Alejandro Fernandez). K1 had a home and OLE Music a superstar band. Their sizzling hot single “A QUE TE PONGO” (I bet you I’ll make you) follows a flowing pattern throughout the US, Mexico and Puerto Rico, oblivious to national borders and language, behaving like a spontaneous international hit. The album, released February 10, 2004, shows great acceptance at retail, with fans briskly snapping it up. “NUESTRO TURNO” includes twelve original songs penned by members of K1. The rhythms go from the party-essentials “A Que te Pongo,” “Tu” (You), and “Lero Lero” to the beautifully crafted “No Me Digas” (Don’t Tell Me) written by Frankie J, who also co-authored “Amor, Familia y Respeto” (Love, Family and Respect), song that features Rap royalty Fat Joe. Other guest artists include Daddy Yankee in the Reggaeton version of “A Que te Pongo,” as well as hard-driving cutting-edge DJ’s DJ Nelson and Luny Tunes.

The awards shared with Kumbia Kings include three Billboard Awards, 16 Tejano Music Awards and one Ritmo Latino Award. Their sales exceeded 1,000,000 copies sold. For Alexandro “Alex” Ramirez, keyboard player for K1, the name of the band “signifies unity for all of us. I thought the name would be appropriate because in our older band we didn’t experience unity.” Alex spent six years with Kumbia Kings and it was there that he learned “ a lot about the business side of music.” Like Alex, the members of K1 share credits as authors of the songs, thus alleviating the “personality-cult” that pervaded their last band. Andrew Maes is the lead singer. He states that being the lead singer doesn’t make him the leader of the group—“We are a group, and we are all equally important to the musical formula, Slim on percussions is essential. “We belong to the people” continues Andrew “we all live through hard times and it is there that we must have faith and move forward with more strength than ever. And that really happened to us… it was a hard year, but the hard times made us grow. The doors opened for us at OLE Music with Oscar Llord, in whom we find support, incredible experience and the direction we need to forge a great career. Our message is, no matter what happens, if somethings comes from your heart, nothing can hold you back.” Isaí Piñón, is also a lead singer, co-producer and keyboard player, and is 22 years old. At age 13 he was already playing keyboards with the Mexican band Mojado (Wet). The K1 star roster includes Frankie Aranda, Adolfo García, Aaron Vasquez, Alfonso Herrera and J.B., for a total of 10 members. Andrew was born in Hereford, Texas and is 21 years old. Alex and his brother Slim (Roy Ramírez) were born in Aurora, Illinois. Slim states—“They call me Slim, I play percussion, do back up vocals and sometimes lead vocals. My uncle Tony Guerrero is one of our biggest influences. He was the lead singer of one of the seminal and most important bands in Tejano music, La Sombra.” Other groups that influence the music and performance of K1 include Pedro Fernandez, Tupac, Santana, Tim McGraw and Control Machete.

They are young, handsome, Latin, talented and devoted to the art of music. It is truly their turn to share the joy of music with the world through an album that marks a new chapter in Latin music and a fresh new look at the new

TINA Y LOS GALLITOS (The Youngest Conjunto In America) By listening to their music, a music fan could not determine the age or the years together as a group. However, Tina Y Los Gallitos is not your everyday musical group. Their age, talent, and musical chemistry together makes them a musical prodigy. The core of the Conjunto is the three family members. Robert, Tina, and John Vega are the foundation of Tina Y Los Gallitos. Robert Vega is 18 years of age and plays accordion and sings second voice. Tina Vega is 17 years of age and plays bajo sexto and sings lead vocals. She is one of the few female bajo players in the industry.
She was recently nominated for the TTMA Industry Awards along with Lee Villareal and Ernie Salgado. The youngest member of the band is John, who is presently 13 years of age. John Vega plays bass and sings back up vocals. Robert and Tina began learning to play their respective instruments at the age of nine. John started learning to play at the early age of six years. It was his sister Tina that taught him to play bass. All the children of the Familia Vega were born in the greater Houston area. Their parents made the decision to home school their children in order that they could pursue a musical career as a group. This advantage allows the family more time to practice together and to go on the road when necessary.

Their musical influences are Tony De la Rosa, Ramon Ayala, Flaco Jimenez, Los Tigres Del Norte, and Jaime Y Los Chamacos. Tina Y Los Gallitos began playing professionally in the fall of 1999. They have performed at many private family functions, Mexican rodeos, and public dances. San Antonio, Wharton, Beasley, and Austin are some of the cities that the group has traveled to perform. This past November the group was invited to perform at the 2002 Fiesta Houston Concert opening for Ramon Ayala, Fito Olivares, and David Lee Garza y Los Musicales.

The talented young conjunto has been privileged to open up for Conjunto Oro, Los Dos Gilbertos, Jennifer Pena, and The Hometown Boys. In 2003, the family has been busy performing for the Houston Chronicle Go Tejanothon, the Houston International Festival, Fiesta Houston 2003, Bill Heard Memorial Day Fest, Budweiser's Tu Musica En La Plaza, the Pasadena Strawberry Fest, and the 2003 State Fair of Texas Their goals are to sign with a record label and get an album out to the market. Tina Y Los Gallitos also plan to finish their homeschooling, become full time musicians and tour the USA and Mexico. Together these musical prodigies hope to expand their future in this industry.
