Just a note to let everyone know that the new Alma Tejana CD is nearing completion!! We will be in the studio tying up the last songs on this coming Monday. A video is also in the works and we will be posting more on that in the near future as well as an official street release date.

The first single has just been released, a cumbia entitled "El Tren." Be sure to call your local radio station and request it. Let us know if they don't have it and we can have our record company get it to them ASAP.

We just returned from a promotional tour of Radio stations in Mexico and the Valley. While in McAllen we performed on the Univision TV Show "Amanece con Univision." Pictures of the promotions will be posted shortly.

We are pround to announce that we have signed a 6-month contract with Dario's on 6th. We will be playing 2 Friday's and 1 Saturday a month and these are all free dances. This is to promote conjunto music in Austin and special guests will be invited to showcase their talent.

If you would like to showcase, please call me at 512/627-7939, and I will give you the dates available. Los Texas Wranglers are proud to be able to do this and have a venue in Austin solely for promoting conjunto music.

This Saturday, August 9th, we will be at Dario's from 8:00 to midnight. Admission is absolutely free. We encourage you to let your friends and family know and invite them to come out. Dario's is a full-service restaurant and cantina, serving your favorite domestic and imported beer, as well as mixed drinks.

We will be performing for a special benefit for the San Francisco Church, La Reina Fundraiser, on Saturday, August 30th, at Flamingo Ballroom on 183 South (Lockhart Highway).

5th Annual Conjunto of the Year Awards, 7/20/03

The South Texas Conjunto Association (STCA) in conjunction with the University of Texas-Brownsville, Texas Southmost College and “La Tremenda 1530” present the 5th Annual South Texas Conjunto of the Year Awards, Sunday, July 20th, 2003, at the Jacob Brown Auditorium, Brownsville, Texas.

Conjunto Categories to be awarded include Conjunto of the Year, Accordionist of the Year, Bajo Player of the Year, Bass Player and Drummer of the Year. Male and Female Vocalists of the Year and Most Promising Conjunto. All winners will receive the STCA Narciso Martinez Music Award.

In addition, STCA recognizes its young musicians on the same evening plus all other categories including Norteño conjunto, Orchesta Tejana, Country Conjunto and Gospel Conjunto also get recognized.

STCA is non-profit, educational organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, documenting, and displaying the regional history of conjunto music.

In addition, the South Texas Conjunto Hall of Fame and Museum of San Benito will also participate with STCA this special evening. This organization will induct its new selections into the Conjunto Music Hall of Fame including Gilberto Perez, Freddy Gomez, Ruben Vela, the late Pedro Ayala “El Monarca del Acordeon,” the late Santiago Jimenz of San Antonio, and Musicologist and collector Chris Strachwartz of Arhoolie Records.

In the past, STCA has been an active participant and supporter of various community events throughout the Rio Grande Valley promoting conjunto music. STCA has also participated in parades, music concerts, and educational presentations at various schools around South Texas. STCA has also provided annual contributions in forms of scholarships to area high schools and universities. Last year’s proceeds were donated to the University of Texas-Pan American Music Dept. This year, most of the proceeds will be marked for the UT-B Music Department.
