~A Deeper Look~

Hmmm....
so we have come to the characteristics
of the Fae.

What are they really like?

Are they like you and me
or
are they so very different?

To me, they are like we humans in many ways
with feelings and wants
loving many things
yet despising many things as well.
They, like us
have a culture all their own
and as we are
they too demand a certian amount of respect
for who and what they are.

I am totally looking at this from the standpoint of
I do believe that they are,
this one point has been
long time settled in my mind.

So if you are reading this
but are not sure the Fae do exist
than you may not agree with all that I am going to present here.

That by the way
is okay with me,
for I am not saying that you "must" believe
I am saying though
that *I* do believe.

You never know
for you may go away from this page wondering
as to maybe
just maybe
the Fae are real indeed!

Let me first say
that much of what you are about to read
came from much research,
both in books and here online.
What things I gathered online,
came from 4 years worth of digging and digging.
There are many Sites in the Web that will give you much more information
and I do not wish to duplicate others hard work.
I will touch lightly on things I have gathered online
but if you will check the Links Page in this Site,
you will find listings of many Sites where some of my information was gathered from.

I suggest very strongly that you do travel to these Sites
as in doing so
you will be amazed at the work in research that others have done.

Now let me share a few of the things that I have found about the Fae.

Where do they live you may ask?
My answer is
everywhere!
They are all around us!
They do though have certain places
where they 'house themselves.

For instance:
Trees
most notably being the Oak, Elder, Birch, Willow, Ash
Rowen, Hazel, Cypress, Olive, Date
Palms, Bonsai, Palmetto Trees and The Hawthorn bush
Your home (if it suits them)
Mushroom groups
Underwater systems
Even your garden roots
Known mostly to live in underground dwelling
beneath hills and mountians.
The Faery Islands which appear and disappear.

What do the Fae look like?

Good question!
They take more forms than there are stars;
some are the size of humans,
even larger,
while some can fit in armies
on the head of a straight pin.
Most of them have pointed ears and long, thin limbs,
though they are not to be mistaken
for frail or sickly.
Some fae have the wings of dragon-flys
or butter-flys,
some like bees or moths,
and some have none at all
but can hover in mid-air without apparent aid.
And even then, some cannot fly at all
but must walk, as do we.

They are not restricted to any color,
for the hues of their skin and hair
reflect the place in which their ancestors made their homes;
some have dark skins and eyes
that reflect light so that
they may go about their business in the dark of night.
Some are colored in greens and browns
as their domain is the forest;
some in silvers and richer hues
as they make their craft
in the presence of water,
or the great gatherings of the courts of humans.

Faeries require food and sleep,
are liable to disease, and can be killed.
They spin and weave within their communities. Faeries have their faires, hunts, markets,
processional rides, games,
inter-clan warfare, and revels.

Their horses, of which they are quite fond,
are often speckled gray and shaggy.
They are quite fond of music and dancing.
Among their instruments are the panpipes, bagpipes, cymbals, tambours,
harps, whistles, fifes and drums.

Nearly every fairy has the power of invisibility in some form or another.
Some fairies may become visible or invisible at will.
Others may only be visible by night,
and some only by the light of the noonday.
But there are often ways to make the invisible visible.

There are several ways to
see past a fairy's shroud of invisibility.
Wearing one's coat turned inside-out
will enable one to see into the Middle Kingdom.
Closing one's right eye and peering
through one's left is sufficient.
Wearing a posy of primroses or
carrying a four-leafed clover can also be effacious.

There are also certain places where one may stand
in order to gain vision of fairies,
but these are often dangerous at best.
For instance,
One may stand inside of a fairy ring,
Or touch certain standing stones.
The surest means to see invisible fairies is
to apply fairy ointment to one or both of one's eyes.

The Fae can be mischievous,
and often when you begin to request faerie sight,
they may test your patience and humour.
Items may disappear, you may find your path barred
either physically or mentaly when walking in a wild place.
Send out love to the Fae folk
let them know that you mean no harm and respect them,
and if they don't wish you to pursue them this time
then so be it.
Wait for a sign.
If none comes then return to the way you came
and wait for another day.

The wind may suddenly gust
when you are nearing a faerie gathering place,
listening to the wind with your heart open
may prove to be of value.

Surrounding yourself with faerie energies
can produce results.i.e. books, pictures,statuettes,
and above all faerie stories and
discussions.
Talking sends out vibrations to the ethers
where the otherworld pick up our intentions.

When perfoming any type of Faery Magic
be sure that all your ritual tools are made of copper,
silver or woods that are sacred to Faery,
especially oak.
The appropriate gem stones to use
are Faery stones (staurorite),quartz
crystal,
celestite (blue quartz),selenite,labradorite, amethyst,
moonstone,and amber.
Flint is good to guard against mischievous nature spirits.

Magical implements should be carried in
a rabbit fur pouch lined with red linen and
engraved with the appropriate Faery Runes.

Because of their almost guarded jealousy of our
world and all that exists in it, including the
feelings and even family life, they like to pull
pranks, steal and have a great distrust against humans.
At the same time tho', they envy what we
have and what we experience as humans and thus
are eager to help whenever asked. If only to feel
a part of our world for a moment or two. They too
will often appear unknown to us, as in another form
such as a dog, cat or other family pet and will
often ride along on one of these animals. If you ever
see your cat suddenly start chasing his tail, you
may stop and think a minute before thinking its just
another crazy thing your pet does!

The scent of roses is a powerful attracting force to the Faery.
Wear rose oil when seeking the Fae Folk.
A rose water preparation can be made to bathe in
before doing any rite of the Faery Tradition (WIcca).
It is traditionally made by
taking 21 measures of rose petals
and steeping them in a copper kettle with a lid.
They should be left to soak for the space of
full moon to full moon.
This rose water can be used to scent
the body and hair
and as "holy water" in works of Faery Magic.

Their favorite hour is twilight,
between day and night.
