Garden In My Heart
I am the type that loves to work in the garden. This past year we moved into a house that needed lots of work in the back yard. It also needed to have a some updates as far as gardening. This was not work to me, for me it is really enjoyable.
I love to pray as I work thru it. Lots of things go thru my heart, as I compare our every day life with the trees, plants & shrubs I worked with.
First came the clean up of the tree branches. As I was cutting the ones off that made it look lop sided, or were so far out, or unsafe...I could not help thinking that we must take the "bad" parts out of our lives to keep growing. Sometimes those may be difficult, & yet we must realize it is so necessary. As I stood back & looked at the tree, I was once again amazed. It grew so tall. I have seen this very tree sway in the winds, but never tumble down. It's roots are deep. Trees are like some people. Providing lots of enjoyment, whether it be a tire swing, or providing shade. Some are even made to hold tree houses. People can provide enjoyment, at get togethers, they give special memories, or a shoulder to cry on, like the shade of a tree.
The wonderment also, is that did you ever notice, that the top of the trees are usually so perfectly shaped. These were given the freedom to grow upwards, while the support stay rooted.
The vines that ran thru the garden amazed me, in that these vines were so long, but yet so breakable. As a bad habit. Bad habits we have a hard time getting rid of them because they were in our lives sooooo long. But when we try they CAN be broken, for they are not deep.
Roses, wow to me, this is something. Roses are so beautiful, & yet when touched in the wrong place can cause a thorn to prick your skin. I take this in two ways, one it shows me that things can look really good from the outside, but once touched, or explored, it can hurt. So be cautious. As the old saying goes..Don't judge the book by it's cover, it is true for a rose. On the other hand, it shows me to respect. I mean, This rose is so beautiful, the sign of love, friendship etc., but be very careful & do not take anything for granted. Be respectful to each other, like we are to a rose.
Also lilies are showing me something this year too. In many yards, they are starting to appear. Ours are slower, but I know someday, they will be out & filling our yard with their beauty. I feel the childhood years are like this. As if to say "Please be patient, I am working it out my way" I will grow, but in my time...
I also worked with various kinds of flowers, & shrubs, that are so very deeply rooted. I would love to be that strong, in my walk with Jesus. Never giving up, even though sometimes things around me feel like they are being uprooted. There were times, where I wanted to move the shrub, however it was too deep. To strong, as if to say, no I am where I am, & this is where I want to stay...(in God's love)
One last thing, this past winter, we experienced an ice storm, in which some pine trees were knocked over. One tree came down, pulling its roots out from the ground. This tree I was saddened, it reminded me of someone who forgets their roots. They are severed from their roots. Sometimes, this comes not by choice, as something happened so horrible, that person's life was uprooted. Not by choice.
Pine trees were knocked over, causing a domino effect on surrounding trees. I was so saddened by this. However thru this, God showed me how to make devastation turn into beauty. A neighbor of ours, used their chain saw, & cut them up, I in turn took each piece of the tree trunk, & surrounded our front garden. I also lined our backyard with them. It looks beautiful as many neighbors have commented on it.
So lessons in life can some from anything, even gardening.
