Way to go Paul and Liz (and everyone else involved)--ROBW #2 was fantastic! Hard to believe the thing only costs a few bucks, since it's so amazingly packed with cool M/F related goodies. A special tip of the hat to Paul for the great "Seasons in the Sun" look back at Seasons End (cracking album), Hippy Dave for the "Plague of Ghosts" analysis, Liz for the crazy back cover, and whomever is resposible for the hilarious "Love that Dare Not Speak Its Name" section.

Any Marillion and/or Fish fan can do themselves a major service and pick up a copy of this fanzine immediately. Highly recommended, again.

...it's floating around the racket club at the moment, but stewart and i have never laughed so hard in our lives. the 'annual band punch-up' and 'letters to the editor'... pure class. we were reading them aloud to each other, but could never quite get through without bursting into tears with laughter. keep 'em coming! :) just thought i'd let you know. * erik

If you haven't had the opportunity to see the new fanzine, The Rest of Both Worlds, please do yourself a favor and get it now! It's packed with witty humor, album and gig reviews, and plain silliness :) I was amazed at the amount of entertainment I got for such a low price. Worth every cent.

End of PSA,

Karin

Got my copy of the Rest of Both Worlds fanzine today, and a big "great job" goes out to Paul Hughes and everybody else involved. An excellent read at an excellent price. The "alternate universe" Marillion history was very cool.

Thanks for getting that US distribution deal set up. Can't wait for the next issue!

Ok, one last thing about Haddington, which actually has nothing to do about haddington. Except that when I was out there, lining up in an ancient graveyard outside St. Mary's church Andy Sanderson was out trying to recoup his expenses selling the all-new Rest of Both Worlds Fanzine.

It's a great magazine, tons to read and all in 6 point type too, fantastic for us blind folk. :-) There's some interesting stuff, including the start of a song-by-song listing and description of every M or F song ever recorded plus a pretty good attempt at an analysis of the lyrics on Raingods With Zippos. The mag doesn't take itself too seriously though, and there is a parallel universe type scenario about what could have happened if Fish didn't leave Marillo after Clutching. Great reading material for anyone planning a seven-hour transatlantic flight.

Good job, guys.

Picture the scene. There I am, stood in a queue in a graveyard in Scotland. This bloke, a bit odd looking walks up & asks if I want to buy one of his fanzines. ' It's only a quid', he says, 'should be 1.50'. I buy one just to get rid of him, he's starting to scare the wife, stick it in my back pocket & go into the church. Once inside I take my seat as Bob Marley sings in the background. I decide to take a look at my purchase expecting a copy of Watch Tower. I flick through the first few pages & my eyes are drawn to a paragraph on page 9 containing the words 'Geisterfahre' & 'Marillions last album', I read on. Not for long however because I become convinced that whoever wrote this had done a serious amount of drugs. Three days later I find the mag in the bottom of my bag & give it another go, from the start this time and bugger me if I didn't thoroughly enjoy what I was reading. It has brought me back up to speed with the 'h' era Marillion with whom, I admit, I had lost touch preferring the Fish stuff it made me go home & dig out my copies of AOS & TSE for another spin. If future copies are up to this standard I'll definately be hanging around in more graveyards. Unless of course you do actually send copies out by post.

Cheers,

Pete Gifford.

First off, congratulations on a great first issue. I guess it is never recognised how much work and effort is needed to make this happen, from the contributors, layout, publishing, costing and distribution etc. Not that I care!!! After all, it's all bollocks to me, all I want is to pay my 1.50 and have an informative, funny and entertaining read when I am on the loo:-)

General Summary

Overall Excellent with more in depth coverage than you could shake a stick at!

Collisions On The Road

Ooooo. A vertical page split between the two bands.......we like and most importantly the information appears to be pretty much hot off the press. It will be interesting to see what you do when you have a period with loads of M activity and little or no F activity.

Parallel Lines

Excellent! Well thought and detailed and although tongue in cheek, it does open your eyes to the "look what you could have won" syndrome. A lot of work and thought must have gone into this, and it shows. So good was it that my girlfriend (a liker (not licker) of M and F but not a "true fan") read it all during the half an hour wait before Fish came on stage for the acoustic gig at the church on the Saturday night at the Haddington convention. Only to say that she never knew that Just Good Friends made it No.1. Silly Cow!!! The only point I would raise is that it is suggested the Beaujolais Day would have been a follow on single after Clutching had been released. This is highly unlikely as the track was demo'd B4 Clutching and never made it onto the album so to have it for a single release is unlikely. Now Shadows On The Barley on the other hand....

Information

Always good to have and should be included in all future issues for reference.

Raingods Unraveled

Bob Struthers with the tongue removed from his cheek.... Fucking excellent review of the music, meaning, logic and reasoning behind side one of Raingods. Long winded, granted, but to a true fan a wonderful review / report. There are so many good concepts to this piece it is very difficult to be more specific in my praise. The same coverage for the epic Plague Of Ghosts promises to be incredible. Excellent:-)

Paint a Vulgar Picture - Remaster Review / Explanation

Just what I and other fans have been waiting for. An extremely detailed run down on all eight of the remasters. I always found that the key benefit of the remasters were the additional tracks that were going to appear on the bonus disk, so to have Ed concentrate his efforts in this area was superb. The booklets with the remasters were always good for the pictures and the editorial from various members of the band etc but I always felt that there was never enough information on the extra tracks as to where they came from, what they appeared with and when they were written?

What we have here is a dream come true....all the information you could ever want and then some. In particular the breakdown of the bonus tracks on Clutching is the highlight of the article. My problem with this disk has always been that I am so gob smacked by listening to one set of music tied up with another set of lyrics that I lose track of which songs each part comes from! So good was this article that each of the remaster bonus disks are now in my car CD changer with Ed's summary on my passenger seat. What a difference that makes;-) It's like having the set of remaster bonus disks all over again but without the cost;-).

GRENDEL Liz Vs Dunlop

What a great idea to pick a subject and to have two people give their different opinions and arguments. This has to be worth continuing with different subjects in future Fanzines!!!

As for my view on the great Grendel debate.......Liz 1 Dunlop 0 although I do think that mention has to be made to whether or not either Fish or Marillion WANT to play this track.

For the record....this article also made me play Grendel again for the first time in ages........not my favourite track of F era but certainly better than some of the other "A" releases such as He knows You Know IMO (Let the flaming begin;-))

Complete A-Z (But only A to B enclosed)

One of the best sections in the magazine, with not only a complete track listing and summary but also comments from various band members about the tracks involved. It is a pity that space restricts that more space wasn't allocated to this section. Lets just hope that in future issues you get more than just two letters out of your system, otherwise this is going to last 13 issues and at one issue per quarter? It will take over three years to complete!! My biggest gripe is that it is M only A to Z when the fanzine is targeted equally at both M & F.

Oddities Of Nature

Nice one......how many weird ones like this are you going to come up with???

SUMMARY

EXCELLENT. WELL DONE.

You have a hit on your hands;-)

Issue 2 is already looking good for contents. I guess all you have to do is to either listen to views of ranting readers like me as to the future format. Alternatively tell them all to piss off and you will publish what you like....a bit like F and M attitude to live gigs and Grendel.

Congratulations

Mark Paling

Just a quick note to say thanks for ROBW - bloody excellent! Got it Saturday morning and couldn't stop reading it (which particularly annoyed my wife who wanted to go shopping in Oxford, while I wanted to delay until the Zodiac box office opened!). Anyway, congratulations, and thanks for your hard work (and your 'team') - it's an excellent mixture of informed opinion, interesting information (largely useless, but what the hell!!) and amusing fiction (I hope!!) - I couldn't help wondering what the subjects of these articles had to say!

Thanks again, and all the best, John (Eagerly awaiting Issue 2)
