Star Trek - The Next Generation - Season 2 |
One of the scripts left over from Star Trek: Phase II and it's really quite interesting.
There is no real element of danger or conflict here, but the strange alien impregnation gives us some good
scenes. Like Riker's reaction to Troi's pregnancy and Data intently observing her as she gives birth.
Not brilliant, but I really enjoyed this.

Another red shrit bites the dust. The crew again at the mercy of a all powerful evil entity.
The scene with Riker and Worf on the Yamato is nice and creepy. And is the final scene where Picard figures out Nagilum's real intent is also very good. Solid second season show.

Holodeck story, enough said. It does have some marvelous overacting by Data/Brent in the role of Sherlock Holmes.
Professor Moriaty is not bad as a villain in Star Trek. I'm afraid if it were'nt for Data playing the violin, this
would have been very bad. But he does, and a very good job he did of it too.

The only real Pulaski story. A warning about the dangers of genetic engineering. The only problem
I have with this show is the miraculous transporter rescue at the end. This tecniqiue (and the one in Rascals)
really is a potential cure for virtually all diseases - maybe even death.

Wesley Crusher in love, that's the plot here. The scene where Riker instructs Wesley in the fine art of manly charming pick-up lines is very funny. The Alasomorph aliens are an interesting and powerful species, but some of the forms Anya takes look deceptively like something from a 1940's horror movie. The shapeshifting effects themselves are fantastic for their time, though. I enjoyed it dispite the cheesy "teenager in love" theme.

This was easily the best TNG show to date when it aired. From the point when the Yamato explodes
(and what a bang that was) the show is tense and filled with mystery and danger. The Romulans are always
great to see, and the Iconians are fascinating. There are some great comedy lines from Data and Picard.
One of my favourite early TNG episodes.

Even if the story is simple ("Anomaly, Future Picard - what the heck?") it is effective.
We just don't know what's going on, and seeing Picard "all messed up" adds to the tension.
Sadly the anomaly is never explained. It was suggested the Q created it and that this show should be a prequel to Q-Who?. That would have made sense, but they dropped it.

The original Borg story. Q returns but this time it's no joke, more Enterprise crew members are killed than in any other episode. Introduces The Borg - a horrifying and incredibly powerful race. Has some good battle sequences but the Enterprise is no match for the huge Borg cube. The kick-off to the many important events involving the Borg later in the series.

The Pakled! - YES! - These guys are just the greatest. I'm not even being sarcastic when I say that, I think they are funny.
The episode is kind of dull, except for the Picard/Wesley scene where we hear about the Captain's past. But I do wish they would bring back
The Pakled more often, they sould even have a couple permenantly posted on the ship.

Probably the worst episode of all time. Why did they have to do this? Its no more than a load of clips
from previous shows,
framed by a ridiculous and hollow plot of Riker being infected by a plant. Ooohh, how sad.
