Star Trek - The Next Generation - Season 7

Interface

Except for maybe Force of Nature this is the worst episode of the season. But a decent Geordi story, where we hear about his family. The ending is unexpected. Not very exciting.

155
Gambit, part 1

An ambitious two-parter starting off with the apparent death of Picard, Oh, the horror! The plot is interesting but the bad guy, Baran, is not. He's just a typical villain. The writers did a smart thing by making Tallera turn out to be the real bad guy (girl) in part 2. The best scenes are the Riker/Troi and Data/Worf scenes on the Enterprise.

156
Gambit, part 2

All the mess is cleaned up nicely this second part. Tallera gets her hands on the Stone of Gol, but it doesn't do her much good. L.A. Lakers superstar James Worthy makes an appearance as a very tall and mean-looking Klingon. Everything returns to normal.. except for Riker being sent to the brig.

157
Phantasms

The story itself is more than a little strange, but it has tons of wierd and wonderful scenes, ranging from hillarious (Beverly sucking Riker's brains out with a straw) to downright creepy (Data stabbing Troi like something out of Psycho). Quite pointless but worth it for all it's wierdness.

158
Dark Page

The best Lwaxanna show by far, a real dark psychology story about the dangers of repressed psychic trauma. Marina Sirtis acts well and Maques is a nice character, and surprisingly he isn't the bad guy. The ending is appropriately emotional.

159
Attached

Some long overdue attention is paid to the Picard/Crusher relationship. It really quite good, and not too embarressing for Picard. Good thing Picard is such a decent man; being alone with a woman you are in love with (who can read your thoughts) could easily become a very ugly situation. If you know what I mean.

160
Force of Nature

Some serious environmental issues are being raised here and the infamous Warp 5 speed limit is introduced. I doubt that The Great Bird would have approved of the writers putting a speed limit on his vision. The Ferengi are in it, but this is essentially a bad episode.

161
Inheritance

The fact the Juliana Tainer and her husband never suspected that she was an android just puzzles me. How can it be that a Soong-type android can live a whole life as a human, with emotions, aging, (having sex even?)... without anyone suspecting? I find it kind of impossible to believe. Anyway, good character devellopment for Data, good allround acting, and a decent script.

162
Parallels

Yet another of Brannon Braga's temporal anomaly episodes, but this one is very good. Worf is very funny and the science behind it all is on solid ground. I love the infinite quantum realities theory, it makes you think. The Worf/Troi relationship is examined and they have a nice dinner with champagne in the end.

Sub Rosa

This is dreadful. One very weedy plot and with some very cheesy characters. It has a lot of Gates McFadden in it, but thats not nescessarily a good thing. Just seems silly to me; a candle that turn out tyo be the home of ananaphasic "ghost" with a british accent in it. Come on, can't they do better than this?

167
Thine Own Self

A good Data story. We meet another primitive/ignorant culture, Data almost kills them all, then saves them, then they kill him... simple really. Overall, Data is well characterized, but he befriends yet another child. We have seen this before. Troi gets promoted to full Commander, congrats to her.

Genesis

Another one of those totally preposterous scripts. Why does Barclay turn into a friggin' spider? Tell me! But these very strange goings on on the Enterprise leads to one of the craziest and funniest TNG shows. Something tells me that I should have hated it, but I really did love it. Just don't try to think rationally about this one.

All Good Things

Considering this was the grand finale of the greatest TV show the world has ever seen, my expectations were pretty high. Luckily it was one of the best. Everything works in this episode, every scene is significant, the direction is the best ever and when past, present and future converges it makes a remarkable climax. Fantastic.
