Flickering flames drove back the darkness in the small hollow while creatures of various forms crept closer and closer.
Oct31world
These fell beings dwell in a place where darkness reigns supreme. A place where dawn is an alien and unwelcome thing. A place where good dares not enter and evil roams at will.

These denizens of the night were drawn by a curiosity to find out what this strange, flickering beast was that hurt their eyes yet warmed their skins for they had never seen fire before.

With fear and yet with a kind of strange longing, they crept closer through the trees until they were finally within the bowl itself.

Suddenly a voice began to speak and as it spoke, one by one, all of the ghosts, ghouls and demons turned to listen, for the voice, though fair, wrought a tale so terrifying that it chilled them to their haunted souls...

AW_13027.1N_13019.4W_0.2a_60 In a large country house a lady sits rocking in her chair by a window, the smell of apple pie wafting in from the kitchen while her two boys work outside, painting the building as they always did every year.
The lady's eyes turn from the view as young voices are heard tip-toeing through the house, the floorboard's creaking tells of their progress however much they try to be silent.
"This place is cool" one says as he discovers the room where the lady sits watching. "Let's tell our stories here!" says the other youngster, close on the heels of the first.
The lady sighs quietly to herself and vanishes, dissipating like a fine mist in a soft breeze.

After the wonderful fun that was had at last year's Horror Tales event, we just had to do it again this year -- only bigger!!! Many people were approached to help create the fun and many responded positively. Wonderful people who deserve recognition. All the storytellers especially deserve an extra round of applause!

We warmly thank the Titans Guild members: Lady Bunny, TechnoZeus and Razzle for placing signs and promoting the event in Oct31 and a special "Thank You" to Flagg of AWCOM for placing a promotional sign at GZ in AW!

In recognition of his tireless promotion of ActiveWorlds, and in particular, his coverage of some of the Horror Tales events, I want to thank Thorus and his CyberRadio. When you see "Ed's TV" in any 3D environment, you can be sure that Throus and CyberRadio is on the job!

For their generous support and invaluable help, I personally would like to thank Baron von Shrike for the storyteller graphic that well depicted the event it advertised and to Stannley for all of his help and support through all the planning and carrying out of the events; not to mention the many tales he shared with us! (Stannley also quickly laid out this web page at my request so I could get it done faster... *G*)

Some of the tales were old, some were new, some were fiction and some were true! We were treated to tales of terrifying horror that sent shivers down the spine and made you look behind you for fear that there actually was an unknown spooky terror about to lay it's hand upon your shoulder. We listened to accounts the tellers actually experienced and, in hearing them, made us glad that it wasn't us that had the experiences!

We were treated to several terrific stories that were written by those who told them and other stories that were adapted works from masters of the genre.

Whatever the source and whomever told the story, they were truely something that should not have been missed. If you were unfortunate enough to have missed them, here are the stories that were told over the three-day event, credited to those who told them and their authors, when known.

Be warned though!
Terror awaits within these pages!
Nightmares may follow your readings!
Oh, and what's that creeping up behind you?
