MARIO SUNSHINE
The other big announcement at SpaceWorld 2001 was Mario Sunshine.

Not much at all is known about the game, except for what people can get from looking at the various pictures taken from the demo.

Mario Sunshine looks to play similar to Super Mario 64, except it's set in a more modern setting. With buildings and houses and such. Mario sports many of the same moves as he did in Super Mario 64, and was shown jumping from building to building and flipping of walls.

The major mystery of Mario Sunshine is some kind of weird contraption that is hooked onto Mario's back. No one knows what it is used for. There is a guage or some kind of weird icon in the upper right corner though, that seems to be somehow connected. There are various pics from the demo that show the gauge filled with water. The contraption most likely has something to do with the Sun (As would be derived from the title) or water.

Mario was also shown collecting Sun Coins, and at certain points you can see some kind of rainbow objects on the ground.

That is about all that is known about the title. And just about all of it is pure speculation. The game seems to be pretty cool though, and I can't wait until more info is released. Hopefully it'll be as ground-breaking as Super Mario 64 was, somehow I doubt it though. Nonetheless, it should be a cool game.

Click here to check out some grainy pics. Taken off the big screen at SpaceWorld 2001. Don't go by the pics though, as they don't do the game justice, and I know it looks far better than the pics seem to show. Pics never do games justice anyway :-)

I'll update this page once we actually know some official info about the game . . . Which, knowing Nintendo, could be awhile. So, until then, just check out the pictures and look forward to knowing more about this new Mario game!
