Good bye England's Rose
Diana, Princess of Wales
7/1/61- 8/31/97
Killed by a drunk driver!

I don't know about you... But Diana's death has really grieved me... even though I didn't know her, we knew about her, what she stood for and how she cared so much for others.  Here are the things that really bother me!

Diana's gone... no more to accomplish things here on earth, or to enjoy her children and watch her son become King... we the people, the emptiness we feel... all this bothers me... but most of all, I feel bad for HER SONS...Growing up without their Mother....  all because of a DRUNK DRIVER!

Her sons leaving after looking at the miles of flowers that were left for their mother

"MUMMY"
the flowers on her casket... need I say more?

the Media... the Blame...

Why haven't we used this opportunity to let others know that
NO ONE is safe in a car driven by a drunk driver!!!!

Which brings me to....
Her Boyfriend....
Her Bodyguard....
Her Chaufer....

Weren't they all supposed to be looking out for her safety?

Then Lastly .... the contributions...

To be made to charitable organizations in Memory of Diana... why don't we hear more about the cause of stopping drinking and driving... the thing that killed HER???  She obviously was concerned about that too, since she had sent a letter that arrived after her death, to 3 young children in New Zealand's who's father had been killed by a drunk driver... why does this keep getting pushed under the rug????

This is what I think....

I think that her boyfriend, body guard, the driver, the one's making the arrangements for the departure from the hotel ALL knew that the driver had been drinking... it was mentioned that he drank at the hotel while he waited for the crowds to leave...  if they all knew then WHY did they get in the car????  Well, the driver, I'm sure he figured that he wasn't really drunk and he could handle it... as for the others... they too KNEW the hazards of getting into a car with a drunk driver, but I feel that they felt that THEY WERE SAFE!!!

  • He was a good driver
  • It's only alcoholics that die in drunk driving crashes
  • We can afford to pay off a cop if we get a DUI
  • It will NEVER happen to me

Most likely, it never crossed their minds because this isn't the first time that they had an intoxicated driver.... social drinking or drinking at a expensive high class place, puts me in a different catagory... therefore making me SAFE....

BUT DOES IT MAKE YOU SAFE?????

OBVIOUSLY NOT!!!!!!!

This I believe is why  it is so hard to pass drunk driving laws, our govenor's, congressmen, senators, judges, etc....
are drinking and driving!

So why aren't people contributing to charities to stop
DRUNK DRIVING?   Maybe because they don't want to accept the real reason of her death...

But the SADDEST part of the whole thing isn't that we have lost a Princess... but that a Princess has lost her life and her children, William and Harry have lost their mother.... and  it could've and should've been prevented!

What can you do?
Don't Drink and Drive
Don't let your friends Drink and Drive
Tie a red ribbon on your car antenna and let others know that you don't drink and drive
Support and encourage your police that are making DUI arrests before the person kills someone!
Join an organization in your area and help fight drunk driving... I highly suggest MADD, if you go to there sight you can find out if
there is a MADD chapter in your area, if there isn't contact your
state office and they may be able to help you.  There are other
good  organizations too that may be in your area... RID and GRADD
are a couple that I know of.
Contact your senators, congressmen, governors, state
representatives, mayor and our president.
Let them know that you support tougher laws for drunk drivers.
Find out why we spend so much money and time on research for
aides and cancer, etc, and nothing is being done about drunk
driving... one of the highest killers in our country!
Let them know that you know about the case in North Carolina
where an offender was just given a life sentence for killing a
little girl while drinking and driving and we would like to see laws
like this in all the states... maybe if there was something to be
afraid of... peeople would think twice before they drink and drive.
I hope to have you a list of address and phone numbers soon.
Visit the America Cares fight against Drunk Driving web page, Sandy has a plan, petitions and lots of info there to help STOP drunk drivin... a must visit site!

Candle in the Wind
Goodbye, England's rose;
may you ever grow in our hearts.
You were the grace that placed itself
where lives were torn apart.
You called out to our country,
and you whispered to those in pain.
Now you belong to heaven,
and the stars spell out your name.
And it seems to me you lived your life
like a candle in the wind:
never fading with the sunset
when the rain set in.
And your footsteps will always fall here,
along England's greenest hills;
your candle's burned out long before
your legend ever will.
Loveliness we've lost;
these empty days without your smile.
This torch we'll always carry
for our nation's golden child.
And even though we try,
the truth brings us to tears;
all our words cannot express
the joy you brought us through the years.
Goodbye England's rose,
from a country lost without your soul,
who'll miss the wings of your compassion
more than you'll ever know.

Lyrics were revised and sang by Elton John at the funeral of
Princess Diana.
