~Expectations~

Said the stars
To our sun...
What are your expectations?
"To be one of you
To one of yours,
And help light the night
On your distant shores."

Said the moon
To the sea...
And what do you expect?
"To be held
In your embrace
And breathe tides;
To reflect the glow
Of your ancient face,
Where in each crater
A secret hides."

Said the wind
To the flower...
Tell me your expectations.
"To dance each day
In your breeze.
To rest on occasion
In shadows from
Trees.
Then dwindle and fade,
Crushed velvet to jade...
Return to the ground
Without making a sound."

Said the sun
To the trees...
Do you expect to be
Here on the morrow?
"We shall turn our
Leaves to your face,
Until each year
We drop them
Thru autumn's grace.
We'll be here still
To renew them,
On your
Path's retrace."

Said the trees
To the farmer...
As you stand in
Your field,
Do you expect
Each year
A better yield?
"I pray as you do
For a balance of
Rain and sun.
As the tall corn
Will attest,
This year we
Were blessed...
And there's much
To be done."

Said the grass
To the poet...
Why do you come here
Each day?
Is there something you
Expect me to say?
"I expect and
You do.
With crickets and mice
You whisper,
And All of It
Is true.
When you blanket
With frost,
You're like
A river crossed...
You can look back
And see
Where you've been
You will be."
