~Orphan's Song~
The cool dampness of fall
Hangs heavy in the air.
He sits on the great gray porch,
Lost in the blankness of his stare.A symphony of rain
Cascades through
The changing leaves.
As each one falls
His consciousness calls
For understanding
Why part of him grieves. Is it wrong to feel lonely
When there is little chance
He'll know the splendor
Of golden days with mom and dad
And not be left to happenstance? The trees begin swaying
And seem to be saying
"Dance in the sun while you can
For all unfolds within the plan
As it was meant to be...
You will know the purpose
When bluejays play and eagles stray
Near the entrance to eternity."Wordless wisdom
Falling with the mist.
His mind awakes
And then partakes
Of the wonderful song...
Smiling--like a lover kissed.
Still he lingers a while
With a song on his voice.
And he sings of how this yearning
Was not of his choice.
It makes him feel better
Or so it would seem.
He'll find true comfort later,
In the midst of a dream.

~Orphan's Song II~
Home has a hallowed place
In the heart of an orphan.
When he is grown,
His search still lingers
For that he has never known.
The world around him,
Healed and warmed by
Childhood's great,
Is somewhat of a mystery...
No basis to relate.
He stands outside
Looking in,
Knowing not how
To be part;
Just how to have
Deepness of heart.
How can one like this
Find his inner child?
When too soon he grew up...
No youth beguiled.
He remembers his home
As Nature,
For She was always kind.
And the song She
Once taught him...
Unburied...
So easy to find:
"Dance in the sun while you can
For all unfolds within the plan
As it was meant to be...
You will know the purpose
When bluejays play and eagles stray
Near the entrance to eternity."
