~Who Will I Dance With?~
The song now echoes
Against empty walls.
I try to move on in my thinking,
And shut down
What my mind recalls.
The sweet melody
Snaps me back in time
When we danced warmly
On light whispers,
In fields of gentle pine.
Now whose head will
Lie on my shoulder?
Moving in unison we danced
As the world grew colder.
Who will I dance with?
Her heart beating
So close to mine.
Our breaths rising in vapor
On some tenuous vine.
The music comes to an end
And, just for an instant,
I try to pretend
The song brought her
To my side.
Such moments are fleeting,
And again I find
Myself greeting
A world without her...
Harsh and exemplified.
