.IBK
A multi-instrument Sound Blaster format used by PCs with Sound Blaster sound boards. The single-instrument format is .SBI.

.ICB
A version of TrueVision/Targa's graphics compression/decompression scheme, which supports pixel depths of 8-, 16-, 24-, and 32-bits. It may also be used to exchange hi-res graphics among several packages using these filename extensions: .TGA, .VDA, and .VST.
IFF
Interchange File Format. Commodore Amiga graphics data-formats including HAM, SHAM, and DHAM. LBM 1- to 8-bit, 16-, and 24-bit PBM.
.iL5
Adobe Illustrator document, (the number "5" indicates the a creating application's version).
IMA
Interactive Multimedia Association's 4:1 compression/decompression scheme for audio. (It can be used by QuickTime 2.1 for CD-ROM audio files.)
Image file
Graphics data-format developed by Silicon Graphics™.
IMG
Digital Research's DOS/Windows data-format which supports grayscale and 2, 4, 16, or 256 color graphics. Files, such as those created by Ventura Publisher have a filename extension of: .IMG. (These correspond to Ventura Publisher's .GEM files on DOS/Windows systems.
Indeo
Video compression/decompression (codec) format developed by Intel™ for its ActionMedia II capture card's i750 chip, and licensed for use on the MAC, Windows (in Video for Windows), and OS/2. It is based on a VQ (vector quantization) algorithm, a variation of DVI-RTV (Digital Video Interactive-Real Time Video). (Intel's stand-alone version is called PC Video.)

Indeo combines both lossless and lossy algorithms, and provides a data compression ratio of 10 bytes to 1 (10:1). The algorithms assume the videomaker wants a video window inside a computer screen, rather than a full-screen picture. Playback is at 15 frames per second (fps) in a quarter-screen window of 320 (h) by 240 (v) pixels, and with a color depth of 9 bits per pixel.

Indeo can be played back by software and with Intel hardware. It is designed to be hardware-scalable to produce the best image supported by the hardware it's running on. "It's a little slower than Cinpak at playback, but offers real-time capture and compression and high-quality output almost as good as Cinpak." Indeo version 3.2 should provide playback at a resolution of 640 by 480 pixels and 30 fps.

.INF
An Independent File format for platform-independent setup scripts understood by the Internet Component Download service. It uses URLs to point to files, which may be at different locations (depending on the desired platform), that need to be downloaded and set up for an .OCX file to run. This mechanism also provides platform independence for non-HTTP servers. (MIME Type: application/x-setupscript.)
.INI
An initialization file which contains code for using the data in a command file, in a text or data file, or data loaded into RAM from BIOS ROM including hardware configurations.

If you change the name of the file, it (or the system if it is WIN.INI file) may not operate properly.

I/O
Input/Output term typically used to indicate data flowing into and out of a computer to and from an external device which can be a keyboard, monitor, modem, etc, or even another computer. The "I/O" can also refer a computer's cable-interfaces (parallel, serial, etc.), or its systemboard's (logicboard's) bus connectors. Some computers and peripheral devices often use the symbol to label the AC-power switch's on/off settings.
