Where crononaut Frank Parker
"Backsteps" seven days in time,
Wherever needed...
Whenever "when."
His code name "conundrum"
Is how each timeline
Knows he is for real...
Then he embarks on
Various missions,
From commando, to lover,
To Navy Seal.
His "time sphere" was
Derived from Roswell know-how.
(I heard about that stuff at a Trek Convention,
Where I was "living large and barely prospering.")
Its finite fuel is used for only critical
Backsteps to undo events,
Or when the president is about
To have a cow!
The real conundrum is
With Frank himself.
Each time he goes,
Another onion peel unwinds,
And he files more alternate memories
On his crowded mental shelf.
So far is he from whence he started...
Each timeline left behind a flower petal
That will never bloom again.
He's seen catastrophe and death,
Backstepped and made corrections,
And then everyone lived that "when."
Is he getting younger everytime he goes?
Or will all those realities
Make his mind feel old,
And lonely... as a desert rose.
He knows things about people
That they've never done.
They most probably would,
And have...
Once his trip has begun.
A living conundrum,
Frank is the world's next chance.
Another trip....another slip
Between the folds of truth,
And possibility is his next dance.
