PRIME MOTIVATIONS
·  To protect and help those close to him - that translates as protecting the ship and the Federation.  He will do this with his life, if necessary.
·  To have as much fun as is legal and can get away with!
·  To prove to Captain Randall her risk on taking him on was worth it, though he'll never admit this to anyone.
·  To be as highly regarded as his sister Jezerey; again, he'll never admit this.

AMBITIONS:  Nothing specific!  (He kind of had that taken away from him during his courtmartial - to be in the Fleet again and in as a Security Chief especially is more than he let himself dream of.)

GENERAL PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION:  To outwards appearences, and even to himself most of the time, he is a superficial and shallow person living moment to moment for the next experience.  However, if he was really like this he never would have got into the Academy, let alone got to Lieutenant rank.  He's the kind of person who's good at things on an instinctive level - he can almost sense tactical positioning; it's almost innate.  He's a brilliant fighter in hand-to-hand, phaser, group deployment or ship-based combat, as his timing is uncanny.  He's also a great teacher, training his people well.  He is easily bored, and when he is so, he is tempted to do silly things and takes risks.  He can be immature, especially off-duty.  Lazy, indolent, but he will shuck these if the situation calls for it to become alert and wary.

HOBBIES/RECREATION
·  He loves a good party, but actually sticks to the Captain's rule of no alcohol!
·  Gossips - but only what he's been told by others - he won't use internal sensors to track people, nor abuse his position as Chief - if he's ordered quiet, he'll stay that way.
·  Phaser range and "hunt" programs on the holodeck.  Fantasy "Dungeons and Dragons"-type stuff as well.
· Watches Red Dwarf  with Grieg occasionally.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:  Lower average height; stocky build with a tendency toward chubbiness (if he's let himself go - long shore leaves'll do this).  Gingery brown wavy hair and beard, broad featured good-natured face.  Pink, ruddy skin, hazel eyes.  (Australian accent) (5'7")

WHY CHARACTER JOINED STARFLEET:   His sister seemed to be having a lot of fun and adventure in the Fleet, so he thought he'd give it a try too.  It also gave him a sense of purpose.

PERSONAL HISTORY:   Born on the USS Telford en route to Delta VI, and often left to his own devices or in the care of his older sister while their mother was on duty.  Living aboard the ship for their childhoods gave the Daniels children an early insight into the true nature of rank and the people bearing it - this is why Daniels tends not to be respectful of rank alone.
He entered Stafleet more-or-less on a whim, but was able to keep his place with his skill with his hands, his prowess with weaponry and tactical systems and his plain thick-headed bravery guaranteeing him a place in Security.  He proved himself to be a good officer in many situations, earning commendations from many commands, but his boredom at being in such repetitive jobs outweighed his commendations and he was courtmartialled for insubordination.  Reinstated because of mitigating circumstances, Captain Randall read his file and requested he was put into the Chief position on her new command, though with certain restrictions.

PERSONAL DETAILS
·  His respect has to be earned - it isn't often given simply because of pips on a collar, and he is unsettled by unwavering authoritarianism - hense his uncertainty around Vulcans.  He respects "people", not "officers".
·  He is a joker, but will soon develop a sense of the appropriate.
·  Unlike Worf, he NEVER misses with a phaser (unless he means to).  He practiced  at level 23 on the phaser range BEFORE he left the Academy.
·  He personally oversees every training session with his people, giving both credit and blame where it is due and always tempering what he says with humour or other ways of doing things.
·  He has a tendency to slump at the Tactical station when there's nothing going on, but will instantly appear alert and ready should anything happen.
· He isn't allowed to consume alcoholic beverages at all whilst on board the Fairburn (synthehol sparingly), and must exercise caution whilst on shore leave - if he comes back to the ship drunk (and Doctor Pendehar will always check), he'll go before the Captain.
·  He has a large collection of empty bottles of all designs and from many places decorating his quarters.
·  He tests those he's to be working with when he first meets them, but the tests are generally fun and silly.
·  He runs tactical simulations on the holodeck set on the bridge (single security officer), on the ship (response time to crisis), planetside, shuttles, etc.  He reviews everyone's perfomances and is always coming up with new ones.
·  Additionally, he also runs a semi-regular drill through Engineering, getting his people accustomed to the Jeffries Tubes, and getting the Engineers accustomed to Security Officers charging through the place.
·  I don't think he'd be given sole command of the bridge yet!

FAMILY DETAILS:
· Mother - Patricia Daniels, Starfleet Commander (Command), alive.
· Father - Paul Benton,
· Sister - Jezerey Daniels, Starfleet Lieutenant Commander (Engineering), alive.

FAMILY HISTORY

SECRETS IN BACKGROUND?:  Not a secret per se, but he was courtmartialled, then reinstated.

FUTURE MILESTONES?:

DETAIL RELATIONSHIPS WITH

Susan Randall:   One rank he is truly mindful of - she's given him another chance and is fair to him besides.  She doesn't lord it over him either, and he's thankful to her.  He even likes her style.

James Grieg:  To begin with he saw Grieg as a real stick-in-the-mud that was all by-the-book and for the rules, but as time wore on, Grieg's quiet humour surprised him and he realised Grieg was really someone he could like, particularly once he found about his Red Dwarf collection!

K’Teira:  He was really hesitant around her - I mean, how long would it be before the Klingon used everything she knew about you against you? - he hates Counsellors.  Yet she was different to other "mind wringers" as she never seems to be the counsellor type and enjoys a good laugh with him.  He tends to like her.

Eden Pendehar:  The doctor who appears to be the source of his troubles, and given that he doesn't like doctors anyway, this increases his distance from him.  Probably on some deep level he recognises that it's just a transferrence of aggression, but he won't stop it yet.  He just ignores his friendly overtures, does his business and gets away fast - but he'd still protect him and help him, however.

Rell:  They work well together, though Daniels isn't behind the door in telling the older Rell to shut up sometimes, which the Engineer doesn't mind, as it's always in a good natured way, and Rell knows he has a tendency to rave.

Elek:  Vulcans have always put him on edge, but up until now he's managed to avoid having one in direct command over him.  Elek unnerves him like no other - she is cold and distant towards him.  He interprets her coolness as an arrogant laughing at him, he thinks she's making jokes at his expense.  Though Daniels trusts her abilities, he is always somewhat emasculated feeling around her when she's dressed him down in that cool, blunt way she has.  However, if Daniels ever discovered she was a Romulan, he would immediately accept her, for the Vulcan emotionless state is one he cannot comprehend in any way, and a hidden Romulan nature would give him a much-needed common ground on which to start.  She would become more of a person and less a computer in his mind.

Ian Randall:  Someone he doesn't see and won't like much.

Thomas Moore:  Initially wary and borders on hating the man, Daniels would come to respect and learn much from him - Daniels isn't stupid after all!  He would respect him as a soldier and as he gradually finds out about Moore's past, he would come to know and understand why he is how he is.  A "rank" he feels is too well earned.

Kylen Dubois:  Telepaths who are part gods?  Aaaargh!  The fact that she has taken over the duty of saying 'hailing frequencies open' has helped here, though his insecurites would cause him to test her a little more than he would usually.  But in a way, I think he'd like her; anyone who's friendly and can hold a drink is a friend of his!  He'd even like her after she'd zapped him once or twice - maybe even more so because she can has the chutzpah to get right down to tin tacks and let him have it!

Berry Moggadí:  Telepaths!  Aaaaargh!  Thinks she's a terrific person, but the fact she's a Betazoid (and married so young!) gives him a touch of the heebie-jeebies!   Her maturity would annoy him too.

Jedera'Is science all he knows?'   Daniels thinks.  So he'd set to find out, chattering at him in quiet times on the bridge.  They'd even get to be friends of a sort, Daniels showing Jedera some of the OTHER things that humans know about!

Jondalar Barlok:  Jondalar is a laugh and a good friend.  They'd mess around together and talk often.

Lisa Willbanks:  She's so easily irritated she's a good target for him, and he'll call her "Juliana" until the cows come home.  Otherwise, he'd avoid her - the doctor thing again.

Viana Jancris:

Joenn:    He's a little jealous of her, being one of the ones who believes she's being given opportunities others had to work for.  He feels she's a bit of a prat.

Chianeé Deserine:  He's a good customer in Paris, and he likes the Prarrian, though he voices a disapproval of her steadfast refusal to serve him alcohol (it's not serious, but a running joke).  She wouldn't appreciate his expansive sense of humour, especially when he pulls pranks!  He loves to stir her up, just to see how far she'll go.
