AMBITIONS:
GENERAL PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION: Caring, protective like a she-wolf with cubs of her family, crew and the Federation (in that order); blunt - she’ll take little rubbish and isn’t afraid to tell it like it is; intelligent; occasionally sarcastic, especially with her husband; dry wit, startling sense of humour - isn’t quite as distant as Captains are supposed to be owing to her family’s presence aboard, even friendly and quite approachable. Warm. HOBBIES/RECREATION: When in the ready room and not much is going on, she will indulge in a little lace making. PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Tall, slender - has a tendency to look gaunt when tired or concerned. Long honey brown hair with tinges of grey she attributes to motherhood, not the Captaincy! Striking, as opposed to pretty. Pink skin, blue eyes. (London English accented speech) (5’10") WHY CHARACTER JOINED STARFLEET: The ability to do something for others, to explore the galaxy and find new things, to help where she could. PERSONAL HISTORY: Born on Rema III colony. Was always something of a prodigy, though she worked hard to achieve her early gained goals, gaining Captaincy of the USS Somne at age 31. At age 33 she retired from the Fleet, wanting to start a family with her now Earth-based husband, and not wanting to subject them to the erratic life she’d give them as a Captain. She worked part-time for the then newly promoted Admiral Kaarin Grainger, a friend from her Academy days. After Wolf 359, Grainger convinced her to take the Captaincy of the next available family-oriented ship. When her husband was reassigned to the Fairburn, she followed (at age 45) and took command once more. PERSONAL DETAILS:
FAMILY DETAILS:
FAMILY HISTORY: Susan and Ian married whilst they were at the Academy, knowing they would be assigned away from each other. They maintained a "subspace relationship" for fifteen years before they resumed normal relations on Earth. During this time, Susan started work for Admiral Grainger. SECRETS IN BACKGROUND?: Not a secret per se, but there is a legend (which is ultimately about her) which tells of an ensign, the last left alive during a snap Cardassian attack, who not only managed to save the ship from capture, but the away team as well. This incident is referred to as Dranik IV. Why no one remembers it is her is for some other writer to decide. Perhaps it is as Grieg once said, "she just wants to get the job done without the applause at every turn"; maybe she shuns the spotlight. Maybe something happened? FUTURE MILESTONES?: N/A
DETAIL RELATIONSHIPS WITH: James Grieg: He is her balance, chosen because he is quiet, thoughtful and intelligent - and diplomatic. She sees him almost as another son, and isn’t behind the door in maneuvering him into dates with people she deems suitable! She respects his counsel and his view on situations, and is eminently happy with her choice of work-mate. K'Teira: The last ships she served on didn’t require counsellors aboard, so initially she was wary of her. However, as she got to know her she came to respect her and trust her, and is now one of her better friends aboard the ship. Eden Pendehar: A doctor is a doctor is a doctor. She likes Eden; finds him an affable and rather pleasing contrast to some of the others that come from his branch; and finds his dedication astounding. She has to beware of him, though; he’s good at finding the "humanistic" angle of things and knows how to twist her heart to see things his way. Rell: She could sit and listen to his silly stories of the Fleet for hours, but doesn’t often have the time, so sometimes she has to cut him off mid-flow. Elek: She would like to get closer to Elek, for the "girl" is obviously in need of a good friend, but isn’t quite sure how. She values her outlook, her logic - and even her well-hidden passion. She knows she is damned lucky to have Elek on her crew, and sometimes wishes she could find a way of convincing the rest of the Fleet likewise. Ian Randall: Fire and brimstone; and they wouldn’t have it any other way (I could have put that in as "matter and antimatter", but you get the picture)! They are emotional supports for each other, sounding boards and spleen-vent targets. They are still very much in love with each other, and more importantly, they still have fun together. They realise they may have problems down the track - but they’ve decided that Ian won’t gripe over Grieg’s decisions re sciences to Susan, and if he does, she won’t listen. It’s a contract decision! She'll take great delight at "attacking" him - tickling him when he's at the computer, etc... Thomas Moore:
She has and will never have anything against the man personally, but resented
having her conditions of returning to active duty as Fairburn commanding
officer overridden by having an overtly military position added to the
mix aboard her ship and so reacted badly for Moore's first days aboard.
However she knows he is an extremely valuable commodity to have aboard,
and is grateful he is there to protect her family, crew and ship if it
comes down to it. Yet if he were to pull any of the 'see a
Romulan ship and blow it away without thinking' stuff, she would go totally
ballistic on him!
Matthew Daniels: She requested Daniels be assigned to the Chief position, as she saw great potential being wasted. Officially she dislikes his sloppy behaviour and off-handed respect to those higher in rank; but unofficially, she finds his antics amusing, if childish. She is convinced the responsibility will keep him from getting bored - his problem under other commands - and will allow him to come into his full potential. Jedera: Jedera fills in the gaps Elek leaves, and is a veritable font of information on all things scientific. Susan appreciated his enthusiasm and softly spoken love for everything new, and needs the lift he brings with him at all times. Jondalar Barlok: Jondalar is a brilliant pilot and a master of the sick joke. Susan appreciates both of these things. Lisa Willbanks:
A great doctor and a valuable part of Eden’s team. Susan wouldn’t see her
much.
Chianeé Deserine: She sometimes finds the Paris host to be a little overbearing, but understands that that’s the way the Prarrians are. She finds her company pleasing and they exchange jokes, and Susan is grateful for the efforts she makes for the kids aboard. |
